Okay so I guess its not just a total philosophy change but it was interesting hearing him in his presser talk about how he had a bit of a "come to jesus" meeting before the Alabama game on how we need to evolve to our passing game with all the strength we have in G.Jones and D. Moore on the outside

We've definitely changed from a run first to pass first team over the past few games. In part based on defensive scheme, in part playing to our strengths.

Next year with a better o-line we should have nice balance run/pass. I think Dooley is generally a run first guy, but I'm glad that we are using the lightning we found in a bottle (Bray).

I bet D. Moore is extremely happy about the change in philosophy. He has showed out recently and is setting himself up to be a nice late-round draft pick for some lucky team. Reminds me a little bit of Santonio Holmes as he has good speed and adjusts very well to the ball when it is in the air. Should be a solid NFL contributor....

Its been like watching a completely different team since the second half of the south carolina game. Should continue this week against vandy's pass defense, but passing on kentucky will be much tougher. We will need a more balanced attack in that game to keep the defense rested and playing the way they have been lately. Very doable, but going to be a good indicator or our staff's ability to scheme under different circumstances.

I'm even more impressed by that fact that he saw what he wanted to do wasn't working so he was willing/able to see that changes needed to be made, and then he made them. I think its a good indicator of just how good of a coach he's gonna turn out to be 'cause a lot of other coaches would've let their ego get in the way.

Epiphany-a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality.

Live by the pass, die by the pass.....works for me. Bray will have a HUGE day against Vandy but we will need to run the ball to beat UK.

Amen. Hoping that the OL stays healthy for that UK game. They are going to be in crazy mode since this is their best chance in the near future.

It's a huge advantage for the Vols that it's played in Neyland, with something on the line as well.

its like every other team ... you have to evolve to the talents on the field. Tennessee has a gunslinger with fast and athletic receivers. The pass later in the game will open up lanes for the backs to make some yards. I would love to see Tennessee pick up a power back or two like a Jamal Lewis to be able to rip through the line when they get in the 4th. The secondary will be too tired after chasing the receivers for the last 3.

We will need to run against KY. Hopefully, the coaching staff doesn't fall into the "UCLA trap" (both 2008 and 2009 where we went away from an effective running game to give Crompton attempts) against the MildCats.

I thought the strategy was close to backfiring against Ole Miss. But Masoli decided Neyland Stadium needed another Crompton-esque performance.

I disagree. We don't necessarily need to run. Both Kentucky's run and pass defense are at or near the bottom of the conference. We quite possibly could beat them just throwing the ball. The key is we'll need the defense to step up a time or two. It's gonna be a high scoring game.

Crompton was the problem and the OLine's sorriness exacerbated said problems.

We are throwing it more now, because its a weapon now.

VU and KY will not overwhelm us up front, should see more balance the next 2 weeks.

It seems as though we were actually striving for some balance last week, but the passing game just worked better. We ran it 28 times and made 34 passing attempts, that is pretty balanced. But, we only earned 118 yards on the ground and 323 in the air, so the imbalance was in the results, not the attempts. It would not surprise me to see this trend continue with this coaching staff.

Ole Miss has a great pair of tackles. They kill everything.

Their Secondary wasn't very good. I figured Bray would have a big day passing.

Masoli has always been a mediocre at best passer and our high flying offense forced him to pass. Allowing Brandon Bolden to be the focus of Ole Miss' offense was the only thing that could have beaten us.

I believe kentucky's pass defense ranks 12th in the country. They give up enough rushing yards to make up for it though. Thus the need to run it down their throat.

In 2008 we ran the ball well against UCLA. But Clawson thought the game was won, and let Crompton skip-pass, errr, I mean air it out for most of the second half in hopes of the lights coming on.

I've been bullish about Clawson, but that game was on him.

Masoli having his average game would have made the game FAR more interesting (and would have exposed the offensive gameplan quickly).

However, he had a Crompton-esque performance instead, and our boys capitalized.
