I could go on & on about our National Titles, we actually have 14 but the AD only "claims" 6 of those & the NCAA only recognizes 2 out them.

There is a website out there that lists the 14 NC's. I can't link it with my phone. But that would be counting the bama way!

We have five in my opinion:

1938-1940, 1951, 1998.

Yes, we deserved a national title in 1939. I'm counting it.

C'mon, man, Don't be THAT guy! Yessireee, we have won six. There were several ways in the past that the NC was crowned...long before the BCS came to be.

Everybody is getting lost in the weeds. The point of the OP was the passion Dooley has for this school. I believe it and I believe he wants to emulate his father's career by staying at Tennessee 20+ years. Now..... as long as he produces, I'm all for it

Under the current format, 1950 also would have, undoubtedly, been a consensus National Championship for Tennessee. The Kentucky squad which we beat 7-0 that year was Bear Bryant’s best while he was coach of the blue-bellied boys. They finished 11-1, 7th in the AP poll and “defeated undefeated and #1 ranked Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl but Oklahoma had already been crowned with the national championship for the 1950 season before the bowl game” (Kentucky Wildcats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

This game was the most historically significantly in the series’ history and almost certainly the only one in which both teams were ranked in the top 10 prior to its outset. Then undefeated, Kentucky was #3 and we were 9th. Tennessee finished 4th and 3rd, respectively, in the final AP and UPI polls but, under the current format, would have won the national title since Kentucky beat Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and we beat 3rd-ranked Texas (2nd in the UPI) 20-14 in the Cotton Bowl (see 1950 college football season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). A development even more frustrating to our cause is the fact that the final poll rankings for that year were released November 27th even before the regular season had concluded. Army, which finished 2nd in the AP poll, lost to unranked Navy 14-2.

Thought I would let you guys in on some of the passion Dooley belted out to the Freshman Class of 2015 at the annual Night in Neyland this year during Welcome Week this past week.

I had seen him speak about UT football and what it means to older people, or in interviews... But if you wouldve been there last week, Dooley surprised everyone and came out and spoke to the entire freshman class and I havent seen him anywhere near as passionate as he was.

He told us that we have the opportunity to watch our team in "the greatest college football venue in the entire country"... went on to say, "Think about some of this history here: 6 national championships, 13 SEC titles, 49 bowl games, 89 all-americans, (some number) 1st round draft picks, and 24 HOFamers... but the best thing about this stadium, is the FANS." After that i couldnt really hear but he continued to talk about how 70% of our roster is made up of players in our grade and sophomores and he promised us that we will return back to where Tennessee belongs. Then he told us he had to get back to the office and put in some more work, so he left and went back to the offices as we chanted DEREK DOOLEY.

I felt like we were 5* recruits and he was selling us hard. This guy loves our school, and just wanted to let everyone know that, because this guy is no Kiffin. This is where he wants to be and this is where he wants to leave a legacy. :good!:

My niece was there. She said it was incredible.

.

If I am not mistaken, inside the stadium it lists 6 NC's and the years.

Considering the National Title was given by media sources via votes... most claims are trash as I don't think there were many unanimous votes. For instance, in 1957, Auburn won the NC by AP vote with Ohio State winning it based on Coaches voting.

Both schools claim 1957. Every school does this. UT has 6 NCs that they claim. I think they can claim up to 14 or something but the other 8 are complete trash and were voted by obscure sources.

Congrats OP on starting your college career. Be good and dont do anything too crazy during your college. years. I'm glad to hear Dooley has a lot of passion about the fans and understands the traditions of this great university.

I was there, and Dooley also said that we (the fans) come to games and give them the best home field advantage in the SEC, and in return we'll get no less than "their all" from every one of the players/coaches every game...oh cuonzo and serrano spoke too.

One thing Bruce could do was get the fans & students riled up. Glad to see other coaches keeping that passion alive.
