No OC in a nice situation would come here because Dooley is on the hot seat with an AD that didn't hire him. Why leave someplace that you are comfortable for a shot at being the OC at what is currently a struggling SEC school.
I think Chaney survives because of this, and the people in charge remember that at the beginning of the season this looked like a top 3 offense in the SEC before the injuries set in. Chaney was also the OC when Hardesty broke out and when Poole hit 1k, so its not like his offenses can never run the football.

I think Dooley knows what is at stake and that some changes will be made. He wants this program to be successful; so let the man plan his future.
Pretty simple if you ask me, correct what is not working or lose your job. Regardless, I'm behind him and look forward to next year!
GBO!! :loco:
Exactly right. That's why I'm basing my opinion on Dooley on what he does or doesn't do. All coaches make in game mistakes. All of them. The tough decisions that are made in regards to staff and staff management make or break a HC, and my confidence in DD will disappear if nothing changes.
The only thing that concerns me (keep in mind, I'm all for Chaney moving on, I dislike his playcalling), is that the players would have to relearn a new system. And with this young team, I'm not sure how much that would benefit us.
Why can Chaney not be successful in Knoxville? He's thrived in several other positions with other programs. He was a success at Purdue. Why not UT?
I don't have a concrete opinion one way or the other but curious to hear what others think on this. What is the reason behind the struggle he's having here?
The game has changed, the defensive athletes aren't the same, purdue was years ago and it was the big 10. Delay draws and slow developing running plays don't work against sec dlinemen.
Can't disagree with that at all. Defensive game has shifted over the past few years. And the Big 10 D's are not near as fast and athletic as the typical SEC squad.
Chaney was one of the assistants I was most excited about with Dooley's staff. Primarily because I thought he'd be ahead of the curve on this. You think he will not be able to adapt?
I just don't know. If he can, why didn't he already? I don't know that he has ever run a different offense.
