And no problem guys...I'm sure you all that have seen me post know I don't sugarcoat things. He's doing a great job with the recruits.

Imagine what our classes will look like once we actually win 8 regular season games AND a bowl game.

Not only that, but just think now that he's getting good relations built with these kids over long periods of time. They were behind the 8-ball on this class. This is gonna get MAJOR. I love it.

As I'm sure you all know I'm not a Vol fan (besides when you play UGA) but your head coach is a hell of a recruiter. He's tearing up the trail and the kids really like him a lot. I was able to sit in on a in home visit from Mr. Dooley and I came away very impressed. He's someone who I would want to play for and my son too. He's very smooth and you can just tell he genuinely cares about the recruit. That means a lot. You have a coach to be proud of on the recruiting front. That's for sure.

Anytime one man says I would want my son to play for Dooley, to me, is incredible. That means a lot.

Thanks for the kind word, GT. I agree with you; Dooley is venomous on the recruiting front. He's not a stars guy; just a guy who recruits good football players and their families. It's paying off.

Of all of Saban's apprentices, I think Dooley is going to be the best of his coaching tree. Sort of a latter-day Belichick to Saban's Parcells.

Or Vader to Sidious.

Or Rommel to...uh...never mind...

Another thing I like about Dooley is that he's outworking the other guys. I also think he's going to start some good ole' payback this upcoming season. Starting with those damn Gators. Let's Go ****ing Vols!!!!

Maybe it's just the BA in Psych talking, but I always wondered, regarding his likability:

-Parents are very receptive & respecting of him due to his intelligence, professionalism, eloquence, character etc

vs.

-Parents of recruits being a little in awe, but not in a great way...more like in a way where they feel a little intimidated by his educational cred & intelligence.

You know, that vibe where you just don't identify with a person b/c they "come from a different world than you"? Kind of the way I feel about politicians. I simply just don't identify with that privileged world.

My sense is overwhelmingly that it's more of the former. He seems to have a great ability to use his intelligence to build trust and admiration from parents & kids, NOT awe & intimidation. He seems to have an uncanny ability to get people to trust him to build a man with character out of their son, & so must be very relate-able with the way he goes about things. I could see how either could be possible, but I'm glad to say that it seems like he is not intimidating anyone with his background! He's harnessing it perfectly.

Just a bit of a ramble. What can I say? I like social science.

What say ye, GT? Be interested in your take on the vibe he exudes on in-homes, & when talking to 18 yos & parents.

I can dig. Cant go into a house flaunting some type of superior status. Rather, project the positives you have learned and been educated on to the recruited for advancement of themselves.

This is not a religious post so please do not flame atheist brigade. What you say here makes me think of apostle Paul. He says in one passage that he was able to "Be all things, to all men". I think that there are some people who just have a natural charisma that causes others to be comfortable with them. In studying warfare you come across countless examples of men that other men are drawn to follow to the death. Whatever this quality is, it as a great asset to have in a head football coach.

The first option without a doubt. He talks to them like a friend and just has that natural knack that you know you can trust...he's not intimidating. He's just like the cool uncle that everyone looks up to.

If he closes with Tiny, Wright, Clear, Dawson & Maggitt...I'm sold with him on the recruiting trail.

GT without getting into specifics on who the recruit was, can you tell us some of the things Coach Dooley does in an in home visit that sets him apart from other coaches?

Don't know what GT's experience was, but Tim Jernigan's response seemed pretty telling on how Coach Dooley sets himself apart on an in home visit. Here's the link if you want to watch:

Question about in home visit starts at the 4:00 mark
