Dooley will NOT be fired after this season, and we will NOT need another coach!

To change up some of the threads started here, how about we talk about the Vols having a great season, and talks of Dooley being fired will officially be put to rest.

For the insanity of myself and others on this board, hopefully this happens so some of the morons that post in this forum will go away!

Here are my thoughts that I posted in another thread

This year is important for Dooley, and could be the deciding factor for his career.

If he wins 8 games he can save his job, and have another year as the Head Coach of UT football. Most likely with 8 wins at least 2 of Bray, Hunter, and Rogers will go. Thus losing most of his offense making 2013 tough for him.

If he wins 9 or 10 games, he can make the issue to them that they will be in the running for a SEC championship or a National Championship this could possibly make them want to stay more.

So IMO 8 wins saves Dooley's job for a year. 9 or more wins gets him a new contract

both are possible scenarios

I actually believe you are 1 win too many in both categories. 7 wins, he isn't fired (no extension). 8 wins, gets him an extension. 9 wins, or more and I think there will be substantial negotiations.

7 wins isn't a successful season, but isn't worth the upheaval, attrition or buyout.

Well my thread was just to ask for people's opinions on what I heard up here in ohio. I also said I disagree with them and just wanted your guys' opinion, no need to overreact about it.

I see what you mean and I agree 7 wins can get him another year.

What I am referring to with the extension is that with 9 or more wins he will get a couple of key players to stay thus giving him a better year in 2013 and bringing in more recruits and making his team much much better

I hope you are right. I also think that the other option is that many wins means that those guys are definitely gone, they had stats that were just too good to pass up the $.

I do think that Bray might be convinced to stay. It would be hard to go into the draft when Lord Voldemort will be drafted high from USC.

Hunter and rogers gone and bray and patterson stay. Remember hunter has a kid now

Bray and Hunter has to have a huge years to leave this year. Bray has "maturity issues" Hunter has "health issues". Imo only Rogers has proven himself to the NFL scouts. Bray and Hunter could get drafted this year, but unless they have big time stats they wont go very high.

So if they are all going pro this year then buckle up it's going to be a fun ride...

P.s. Rogers could come out right now and be a first rounder. He has proven that his body can last an entire year in the SEC.

Sorry but 7 wins is not enough for me. Not with the talent this team has on offense. If Saban had this same team, he'd win more than 7 games. You can believe that. Vol fans have good reasons to be apprehensive of Dooley's ability to lead this team. Too many times we weren't mentally prepared in the second half. The team all but quit last year vs Kentucky. I have never seen a Saban team lack discipline or tire out like last year's team did. IMO- that is a direct reflection of CDD's leadership. Now maybe he's made the necessary changes in his staff and his self to change all that. But if the team plays half @$$ again this year, then I can't support him coming back. Here's to a better Dooley, a better team, and a better season. Go Vols!

2007 Bama v. LaMonroe; 2008 Bama v. Utah, 2010 Bama v. Scar. Those were all games Bama should have won, and simply blew it. Saban was the coach. Yes he does have 2 national championships, but he also has lost games he should have won.

Yes he should have won those games. No it doesn't make the point that Saban couldn't win more than 7 games with this same team. He would maybe lose a game he should have won, but he'll win more of those than he loses. That's what a good 2nd year coach brings to your team. You win the majority of the games you're supposed to win, and you win one or two that you're not.

It also doesn't prove that Dooley isn't capable of that as well. We won every game we were supposed to (except Vandy, they were favored), and lost every game we were supposed to (except KY, we were favored). Looks like about the same level of expectation.

Ultimately we are discussing semantics, I think most coaches -barring any unusual injuries or other circumstances-have a floor of 7 wins with this talent and roster.

My main point was about the effort the team played with in the second half last year. Where "I believe" Dooley fell short was being able to get his team focused and disciplined. And yes, Saban would have helped our team win that KY game and probably the Vandy game too. He would have had the team mentally prepared for four quarters. Doesn't mean I'm saying Dooley can't coach. It just means last year he didn't have the team's respect.
