Dooley will make some changes on Defense after giving up 51 points.

It looks like our LBs and DBs are too slow..... Brewer shld be an OLB like Sapp... McNeil at SS will happen..... Personally I think Maggitt wld be better at Jack them put in Sapp/ Brewer at OLB to speed up that spot......

Jacques Smith and Willie shld just be used in rushing sub packages or if we go to a 4-3.....
Lathers has great heart but is really slow, he's lost a ton of speed from a few years ago... Even though AJ is playing great at times he's only a true Soph, and his misalignments have resulted In some monster runs......
Agreed about Brewer. Seems like his lack of speed at the safety position hurt us on those runs.
P.S. How about Downs returning to play 4-6 weeks after a patellar sublux?

I kept telling my friends our spacing of front 7 was really bad!!! Our LBs would both run right next to each other leaving the cut back wide open. I even saw the OLB cross over into the MLB space. On one play two LBs went to left (defenses left), luckily the play went that way with no cut back.
True, we can't defend the perimeter in the running game.

Can someone explain why our corners give such a huge cushion to the opposing receivers? I don't get it. Is it due to the lack of speed from the corners?

i have never saw a team get sealed off on a sweep or off tackle like the VOL defense. sal needs to work on containment a 75 and 72 yard run on basicly the same play is awful. and the tackeling was atroscious.but with all the awful play on defense the VOLS could have won if bray could have played a b game i give him a d minus.but i am glad to see the run game show up even though Patterson had a big chunck of yards.

Have read everyone reply on here and I think we all see the same thing and are saying the same thing. 1st more speed at the line backer position
2nd personal has got to be adjusted on defense or our AZZ will continue to get smoked on the run play.
Finally was it me or was our linebackers playing really close to the line of scrimmage and getting bottled up way to easy.

Going to say this in closing. It all comes down to coaching. Our defense looks lost at times. The one great spark that I seen was our o-line appears to be growing a pair and push people regularly of the ball. Go vols thru thick and thin!!!

I couldn't believe it.... Thought it was a full dislocation and he'd be out at least 2 months... Good call on that one.....

I'll admit I was a little surprised as well. I've only seen a handful of those come back that quickly. Hope the PT business is going well.

Not sure what game you watched. I understand that Bray made some bad plays, for the most part he played a pretty good game. His receivers didn't help him with there play. I for one watched the young man grow up right in front of me. Know matter the situation, Bray kept on giving his all up until the end.

Cover the damn edges and this D will be a lot better. All the big run plays against Florida and UGA both was all on the outside. Also McNEIL looked really good Saturday. He was my favorite recruit in last year's class and he didn't disappoint.

in the GA game, our lack of SPEED killed us...LBs can't get to the edges and nobody in the secondary seemed fast enough. We need speed on the field -- speed that kills (tackles).

That was the first field goal that Brodus missed. Palardy has missed a few more than that.

He's missed 2 XPs. When he replaced Palardy I kept mentioning the 28 yarder he shanked in the O/W game. So it's hard for me to think he hasn't shanked a few in practice. It's a "roll of the dice" with either of these dudes.

"We'll go back and look at our personnel,'' Dooley said. "If we have to make some changes then we will make changes"

Look for LaDarrell Mcneil to start over Brewer. He got some good playing time in the 4th quarter and made some good tackles when Brewer subbed out. Also, Palardy may get his job back kicking field goals against Miss St.

Palardy getting his job back just doesn't excite me!

Palardy just seems to have more leg than Brodus. If the gets his aim right he will be solid.

I agree we need to keep contain, but not all the the big runs against Fl. and Ga. were around the outside. In fact all but one were in C gap. So that means it was a lb spacing problem or someone was just out of position. In either case I hope a by week helps and a few guys like Brewer would fit lb mold a little better than his current position. However, Brewer has been out of position several times himself. So, maybe that stuff should be done in the off season or when we have someone else to step up at safty.

We do not run to the football on defense. That usually means your thinking too much. Remember how Chiefs defenses ran to the football, and then we would play Option teams and looked awful. Players were thinking about their assignment too much. If your thinking your slow, if your reacting your fast. This defense is thinking too much.

"We'll go back and look at our personnel,'' Dooley said. "If we have to make some changes then we will make changes"

Sadly, Coach Dooley has "looked" at all his personnel by now. The team speed on this group is below average for the SEC. Recruiting is the only thing that will fix that, so it's not going to improve this year. Big fast running backs will continue to kill this team. Corners and safetys can't keep up with legitimate SEC receivers and also will continue to give up big plays.

This team reminds me of so many Vandy teams in the past, tough for most of the game with huge plays given up that just kills them.

This VOL team is what it is. Tennessee needs better players at all positions to compete.

I noticed Maggitt still limping during the game. He probably shouldn't even be out there.

CM has turf toe and that injury will plague him the rest of the year. I had turf toe my senior year in college and it never went away until about 4-5 months after season had ended. Turf toe affects your ability to push off effectively, thus decreasing short burst and overall speed.

I'd like to see Mcneil to start over Brewer. He takes the worst angles on every play. Anyone know how close Bonner is to some quality playing time?

I have noticed that too..never understand b/c you would think that they would be more effective minus all that cushion..If I were the DC, they would be playing A LOT closer to the WR's...That being said, I'm not sure why the corners play so far off of the receiver.

Anyone else notice how CP was handled on the play where Bray fumbled at the end?

The guy made no attempt to guard him. He just ran out and hit him then fell down. He was just trying to buy time for the blitz. Had Bray not panicked, he could have hit CP for a big play.

UT for whatever reason seems to blitz without pressing receivers.

I look at Miss ST ranking and compare it to USC west...

Miss St computation
7-12
Rank 20

USC west computation
3-13
Rank 13

Over rated

It seemed to me that there were as many if not more breakdowns on offense than defense. I loved the turnovers the defense got. Unfortunately, the offense turned the ball over more.
