Dooley, Wilcox, & Simms All Need To Go

Dooley is clearly not the answer for our proud UT football program. Anyone who was at Athens today, as I was, witnessed an embarrassment from start to finish. Our team was clearly not prepared to play mentally. Our defense was toyed with. Simms continues to take sacks when he needs to throw it away. He has 23 sacks in the last 4 games. We had 9 net yards rushing against a team that had only one 1 game halfway into the season.

Lack of depth was not the reason we got behind 17-0 in the first quarter. Lack of mental preparedness lost this game. Turnovers are part of lack of mental discipline. We are not a well-coached team.

Our defensive schemes are bad. Why would you go with an all-out blitz on 2 & 10, as we did in this game, & FAIL to go with any blitz at all on 4th & 14 in the LSU game?

The learning curve for both Dooley & Wilcox from the WAC to the SEC is too great. Neither is capable of doing their jobs at this level. Neither is Simms. Bray, with all his shortcomings, has a much quicker release & has the potential to be just as accurate & good if he is given the coaching & playing time.

We need to sink or swim with Bray starting now. He is the future. We also need to be signing a topflight QB in this class. Wilcox needs to be canned at the end of the season or maybe even now. He is a failed experiment. Dooley will prove to be a mistake. We can't fire him now but he also will ultimately have to go, & sooner rather than later would be best for UT.

We are on our way to the worst season in Tennessee history. Central Florida crushed UAB, which we miraculously barely beat & needed an OT to do it, despite having only 10 men on the field 3 plays in a row as they were critically driving on us that we never noticed at all. (The referee pointed it out to Reveiz, who relayed it to the clueless coaches on the sideline & in the press box.) Our "7-3-3" defense at LSU has become a national laughingstock. Our coaches lost that game after our players overachieved & then failed to take sufficient blame for the loss, despite their 6-figure & 7-figure salaries of our money they're undeservedly taking.

Patience is a virtue, but patience won't cure incompetence. Dooley, Wilcox, & Simms weren't ready for prime time & probably will never be. Spurrier would've come to Tennessee when we hired Kiffin & also when we hired Dooley had we only seriously approached him. He is a REAL coach, as he proved today. If he had UT's resources, he would've far exceeded his accomplishments at SC. Certainly he would've come when he left the NFL, which is when we should've replaced Fulmer.

Tennessee has never lost 8 games in a season. We will struggle to avoid that fate this year. The way we're playing, Memphis will make their season & beat us on their field. We are running the extreme risk of going 2-10. We have sufficient talent to win all of our November games, but it is doubtful we will, & it is now virtually impossible for us to win any of our October games. We are irrelevant not only nationally but in our own division of our league at a time that Florida has their worst team in 2 decades.

Had we not rescued Dooley & hired him, he would've been let go after another underachieving season at Louisiana Tech. Had we not rescued & hired Kiffin, he would probably be unemployed now. We kept Fulmer at least 3 seasons too long & maybe as many as 7 seasons too long.

Maybe our new UT president that will be named by the end of this month will fix this mess & start by firing our AD that has made all of these unwise moves, including hiring maybe the worst baseball coaches in the SEC.

Dooley's only resume is that he had a father who was a successful SEC coach in a bygone era, was a protege of Saban who never really had any topflight responsibility on Saban's college staff at LSU or pro staff at Miami, & was a mediocre coach at Louisiana Tech. How does that qualify him to be UT's coach? So far, it appears his hiring was a desperation mistake.

Then go cheer for Saban and CUM who lost on Saturday with a stable full of experienced players. We can fire Dooley and start over again. BRILLIANT analysis you have offered. Fire Hamilton, fire Pearl, fire the janitor, fire the governor.

Wow I cant believe that in only 6 games we have already figured out Dooley isnt an SEC level coach with only 68 scholarship players and no full recruiting class to his credit! The majority of classes are made up of with 3 star players and 4-5 4 star or higher players. Its obvious we need OL and DL help and I dont care who you are you wont have a top 15 class recruiting a majority of lineman.

anyone mention we had just 10 men on the field during a Ga field goal attempt.....

Have to disagree on Simms. He's a keeper, a good player to have on the team. Not impressed with Wilcox or CDD. Too many organizational issues, too many simple problems that aren't being addressed. I'm on the fence with CDD.

In 2 years the CBS and ESPN commentators will be saying: "This is a talented and experienced OL that has played together for 2 years with a super QB in Bray and a stable of talented receivers and running backs in Hunter, Rogers, Milton, Neal, Oku and (others yet to be named). Their experienced DL and secondary is bolstered by all SEC Jacques Smith and All American Janzen Jackson." We will get there. Book it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen, Simms is not the problem at this point. I bashed Simms earlier this year, especially after UF game, but he has steadily improved. Dooley is the right man for the job. We have been in every game outside of the 2nd half with Oregon and the entire Georgia game, which was self-inflicted due to turnovers. We have been competetive with very little depth and experience. He is not in over his head. He is very intelligent and I am confident he is the right man for the job. I know it can be easier said than done, but you have to be patient.

Wilcox may indeed be in over his head.I bought into the Boy Wonder of defense propaganda. I know he has personel issues but it seems to go beyond that. Maybe its like Dave Clawson and it takes his system a few years to catch on.

Wilcox will be a stud of a coach. His is a very complicated system to learn. It will take time for our guys to learn the proper responses, which is why you have guys being wide open. The defense has to be smart and all of them must know exactly who shifts to where and what responsibilities change as the play develops. He needs time.

Secondly, Simms' only problem is HOLDING THE STINKING BALL. He wouldn't get hit half as much if he could read the play quicker. He has a good arm and is very tough, so if the coaches say he's the guy, then there is a reason.

I hope the mods are storing these posts so that when CDD is successful, we can throw them back up for the guys who think you can do miracles in less than a year.

Post too long first of all...Listen if you thought that we would with 10 games this year then you are the one that needs to hit the road...No way that was going to happen...Did we think we might be a little better, yes, but in no way should we fire the whole staff and start over...If your that close to the ledge please do us all a favor and jump...Be a gamecock fan by all means!

I'm pretty sure that I won't be the first to say this, but:

This is the most ignorant and absolutely ridiculous thread I've seen on here in a while. It honestly just shows how some people in our fan base are, and it's absolutely pathetic. Most of the statements this guy made to start the thread make me laugh. Spurrier was never a candidate for the Tennessee job. period. Blaming Dooley for our lack of depth also makes me chuckle. The only thing I agree with is that seeing us not have 11 on the field on a consistent basis is getting really old. I would love to see the person that started this thread get in the booth and try to call plays and do a better job with the talent and lack of experience Wilcox has on the field... This guy needs to actually think about what he's saying before he starts another thread. FAIL.

How could anybody listen to someone who has the facts screwed up. Get it right. It wasn't just one overtime, it was 2 overtimes against UAB. 10 men on the field twice against UAB, not 3. Prentiss Waggoner was told by a ref, not Nick Reveiz. There may have been more errors, but after noticing those, I didn't care to read anymore.

Oh, and when we get rid of these 3 people that you have suggested, can we get rid of you as a fan? Let's face it, we are doing the program no good by being so negative. Didn't we know going into this year it wasn't going to be pretty?

This mindset is just foolish. He's doing the no more harm to the program by being negative than you are providing help by being positive. Ultimately the two of you, along with the rest of us at VN, have no real bearing on what goes on over there. We're just outsiders who observe what we see and discuss our opinions about what takes place. No football game has ever been won or lost because a fan was positive or negative about his team.

OP, do you honestly think a coaching change 6 games into his first season is a good idea? I mean really do you?

Spurrier wanted to come to TN huh? The OP can please give me a break. That's all we need right now, 4 coaching staff change in 4 years.

must be, when you need to put 13 men on the field to execute it

Ok Put the Crack Pipe down and back away Slowly. Better yet you should take all of your UT gear and give it to a true fan.

I vote we take away your UT FAN card Now.

You are a pathetic fan for this post. IMO!!!
