As per Chris Low on ESPN:

It remains to be seen how many games Derek Dooley will win at Tennessee next season or even the next.

He inherits a program that's suffered through 13 losses the last two seasons, and when you survey the lack of depth and inexperience on the roster, it's a program that may well be on the brink of some of its worst days in more than three decades.

Dooley, very much a process-oriented guy, isn't about to offer a timetable for when the Vols might be back among the SEC's elite. He wants to win now, but he's also realistic.

His approach is a refreshing one as he attempts to restore some stability to a program that was once the essence of stability ... not too long ago.

Phillip Fulmer was at Tennessee for 17 seasons before being fired from his alma mater by Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton. Before Fulmer, John Majors served his alma mater for 16 seasons before being ousted.

That's two coaches in 33 seasons.

Now, Dooley is the Vols' third coach in a little more than 14 months following Lane Kiffin's one-and-done rampage through Knoxville.

When Dooley arrived, he found a group of players who were understandably skeptical about anything a coach told them. They were also pretty fragile.

"I told them that I'm never going to ask them to trust me because I do think that's something that you have to earn in time,” Dooley said. “That trust is built over time and in the consistency of how we treat them and in the consistency of how we coach them and the fairness and respect that we do it with."

In other words, there are no quick fixes. And he's not going to make a bunch of hollow promises.

"I feel like our players have made a big jump in the last two months in how they feel about our coaching staff," said Dooley, who just recently wrapped up his first spring practice at Tennessee. "But at the end of the day, it's our job to get them to trust us, not us to demand that they trust us."

Seems like all these quotes are pretty old...Chris Low must be strugglin' for something to write about!

These quotes are actually from the SEC coaches conference call from yesterday.

However, you are correct in the sense that this has been said before by Dooley, but it was asked again yesterday.

Dooley is clearly in over his head...

If he were really the guy for the job he'd be alot more organized at this point and he'd have as many players committed to trusting him as Saban and Meyer do at their schools...

This is clearly more evidence that we should have hired someone else and Dooley will absolutely, without a doubt fail here

So players are supposed to trust a young coach that they had probably never heard of just as much as the last two national championship winning coaches? Huh. Interesting logic.

I'm smelling a little sarcasm, but I can't be sure. After 3 reads, though, I'm more confident that you're just joshing us.

thunder5...that is a completely an ignorant statement to make. What evidence is there that suggests he is in over his head? What evidence is there to suggest he isn't organized? What evidence is there to suggest he doesn't have players on board with this program?

You can't compare Dooley with Saban and Meyer at this point in his career because his career with UT hasn't even really began.

Other that being a Dooley hater, where's the evidence?

Exactly...clearly Dooley's fault that hasn't happened yet...

If he would just talk to the media more and pander to the fans that need constant gratification then I don't think he'd have any of these issues

You're a tard for not recognizing blatant sarcasm when you see it...:peace2:

Gotta say,, its hard to tell anymore. If youve been reading lately there are a lot of comments about like the one you made. I wish they were all being sarcastic.

This!^^^ Seems like almost every article I see on Dooley these days says the same old thing. At least he is consistent I guess.

Fire Dooley. Fire Pearl. Fire Hamilton. Fire Fulmer (Oh wait, we can't do that anymore). FIRE THE JANITOR!!!!!! That is my highly intelligent analysis to cure all of our ills, part the seas (Uh oh, that's Obama's job), and we all live happily ever after.

From what I hear Dooley is still enamored with his new position and his new surroundings, which kind of scares me. Things like"This is my new office" These are my facilities" take it for what it is worth, but comes from a reliable source that is fairly close to the athletic department.

Just because he is enamored with his new position in April is not a bad thing. He should be proud of it. He is the Head Football Coach at the University of Tennessee. I personally hope he is still enamored with it 10 years from now. If we are still hearing that Coach Dooley is enamored with his surrounding's ten years from now then things are going pretty good. He is an SEC guy who respects our tradition. His fondness of what he has is a very positive sign in my eyes. This shows me that he loves being at Tennessee and that he is going to give us his all until his tenure here is complete. This type of man I love where im at attitude is just what we need after the turmoil that took place in early January. I want a Coach who is proud of Tennessee and proud to be our Head Football Coach. Coach Dooley and staff are working hard and I for one am extremely proud to say that they are the Coaching Staff of my Vols!! GO VOLS!!!!!

I'm not saying I like Dooley or I don't. I think he will prove to be a great hire. Getting Wilcox from Boise State will do wonders for our defense. Cheney should do pretty decent with the offense. He came in late to recruiting and still managed to pull top WRs from other top programs to come to UT. People just need to step back and relax....it's only April....let's see what we do when the season starts before handing out judgment.

Trust blah blah blah. Plain and simple. If a kid loves the game and wants to do his best he's going to give it his all and play football. You think the Reviez brothers will have a problem with trust? When I was in school I didn't have to trust my coaches. They gave me a play and I did my best to execute it. I don't even see where trust is important in the equation. Come up with something legit to write about.
