In a Southern gentleman way of doing it, Dooley really trashed Kiffin in his presser, without even mentioning him....... here are the main points:

"If you're going to look for sound bites or different things from me that are going to attack other programs or disparage people, that's just not how I am, I'm worried about Tennessee. I'm worried about what we need to do to get our program going. I'm going to always keep my focus on that."

“Everything we’re going to do is going to be done with a foundation of integrity with every aspect of the program,”

“We’re going to represent this institution with class on and off the field.”

"It didn't take me long as a youngster to understand Tennessee is the essence of college football."

Two minutes into his speech, he already had mentioned running through the "T," the checkerboard end zone at Neyland Stadium and the playing of "Rocky Top."

I like what I hear......... and good job with the subtle jabs at Kiffy-boy....... Let's go out, get some stud recruits, and stud coaches, and surround this guy with some great talent......

Exactly!
& as I said on another thread.
He has three things going for him.
1-no tan
2-no visor
3-respect!

Dooley trashes Kiffin? That's a bit of a stretch don't you think. He 'poked' at him a little, but it was far from a trashing.

Not what he said directly.......read my post, it's what he insinuated that's actually kind of funny......

Didn't kiffin also mention he was looking forward to embracing traditions such as running through the T, singing Rocky Top, etc. in his opening presser?

Just sayin'.

Edit: Ahh, I see the subtlety now....gotcha. Pretty good catch!

yeah but somehow it just didn't come out as very sincere..... in fact, the whole singing Rocky Top all night long was robotic, and his entire presser looked like "I can't believe that I'm really doing this" body-language...... Even Desmond Howard said the same thing......

I think Dooley really wants to be in K-ville, and said great things in the presser.

Agreed with the "can't believe I'm doing this" statement. Insincere was my first thought last year, but I also thought that maybe he was just a boring, unexpressive speaker.

Turns out I was right on both accounts.

Funny how pics and video's dont' lie, ain't it?? When I watched the presser last year, I was wondering "why is he not smiling at all?" So I just figured he was nervous......

Then I was wondering, "all he talks about is getting players to the NFL, wonder why he doesnt' talk about Tennessee or school at all?" Bc/ he didn't CARE about TN!! haha.........

If we now go back and watch his presser after we know him, it's soooo obvious that taking the TN job was almost like walking the plank.......he was really HORRIFIED to come here, but he probably figured he'd have to suck it up for 2-3 years, and then Pete would leave, or the UCLA job would open up, and he would bail out.........hell, I bet he would've gone to FL if that was open, too :eek:lol:

I don't think that coach Dooley is about trashing anyone. I think he is about taking care of business, plain and simple.

I guess that's as much as we can expect from a guy who has his degree in Leisure Services.

Does that mean he has a whore degree?

Of course he does. The man is high on life after hitting the jackpot. You want to talk about meteoric rises? From 3 years HC at La Tech to the HC at the University of Tennessee. Better hope you learned all there was to learn Derek, you're in the Big Time now.

I couldn't agree more. All of those things kept rubbing me wrong. And then to find out he had usc videos and pics in our athletic facilities, makes me want to hurl!

I can't believe that Hamilton was ok with this crap, or maybe he was more dooped than we were?! Only problem is that he gets paid not to get dooped.

The subtleness of Dooley's jabs cracked me up. Subtle jabs are funnier than blatant jabs, IMO.

Kiffin was a meteoric rise. Kiffin was the offensive coordinator at one of the most elite schools in the country at the age of 30. He used that to become the youngest head coach in NFL history (32).

He took at job at Tennessee for a year and now, at the age of 35, he is the head coach of one of the elite programs in college football.

Derek Dooley on the other hand, was hired by Saban to be the recruiting coordinator and TE's coach at LSU when he was 32. He stayed there until he went to the Dolphins at the age of 37. From there we went on to become to AD and HC at LA Tech at the age of 38. Now at the age of 41, he is the head coach of a middle of the pack SEC school.

Dooley is moving at a snail’s pace compared to Kiffin. The difference is that Dooley has earned everything while Kiffin has ridden on his daddy's coattails.

I think his sincerity will resonate with recruits and their parents.
The one person who will think they were jabs is Lane Kiffin. If he indeed has a conscience.

After watching Dooley's interview last night I fill he will bring honor back to the School. The last coach we had did not have any school pride. I remember when we won a close game the last coach did not even show a smile or give any congradulations to anyone. Perhaps USC was going to on TV later and he wanted to catch the game. Or perhaps it was his personality or lack of one.

I agree with this post. CDD knows we (fans, studens, and players) got burnt by the ____head. I feel his comments were designed to put us at ease rather than wasting time taking a few jabs at a worthless ____head.

Atr least the guy has some substance. It's not like Lame set the world on fire either. If he keeps the coaches in place and makes a addition or two, maybe just maybe. I want to believe anyway. Rain or shine, thick or thin i'll be a vol. I'm not a fan of our current AD though.

His demeanor reminds me of Saban's in a way just less of a jerk.
