I hope he does well, maybe he'll have a future in TV because he certainly can't coach.

I heard he got a guy that committed to being his assistant while on the show. He hasn't been a very good assistant while working with Dooley on ESPN but Dooley sticks up for him. There was a story that his assistant threw water bottles at Steve Young's car and when ESPN asked Dooley about it he was sarcastic and dismissive in his response. Furthermore, he stated he would talk to his assistant but apparently no punishment was given by Dooley. No one at ESPN can figure out why he supports his assistant the way he does because his assistant hasn't brought him any good info on any of the big time recruits.
Just wanted to let you guys know about this.

He has the hair for it. It does not move in the wind, and would fly off in chuncks during a hurricane.

I will defend Dooley a little bit when it comes to recruiting. He did sign the following: Da'Rick, Hunter, Patterson, AJ Johnson, Maggitt and others that are very good players. Was he the best? No!!! Was he the worst? No!! One thing is certain, we wouldn't have the mentioned without him. He had a huge up hill battle with looming Ncaa stuff early on.

Just my opinion, and I will probably get ridiculed for this, but I don't think Dooley is a crappy coach. I think he's a mediocre coach. And mediocre won't cut it in the SEC.

He was a decent recruiter (landed some very talented players, but apparently alienated a number of high school coaches in Tennessee, and whiffed on some character judgments).
He was a decent coach on offense (2012 Vols offense put up some ridiculous stats, but failed to win the close ones, crumbling in the crunch).
He was a below average coach overseeing the defense (Wilcox was a very solid hire, but we had huge talent problems at the time; Sunseri was a horrible, horrible, horrible hire).

I think Dooley's biggest weakness is that he wasn't ever able to inspire his players to play their best.

Very average coach.

John L. Smith is a crappy coach. Took a talented top-10 team from 2011 and crashed it in 2012.

Just my opinion.

Hope Dools does well with ESPN. Glad to have Butch.

The TFP article on him and HS coaches have tainted my opinion of him. The only one worse that I can think of was when Miami went solely by Rivals ratings and didn't look at any film.

I think they need to get him trained up to replace Corso for when he's gone. Practice putting on mascot heads and uniforms. Then he can just be himself to give everybody a laugh.

College Live ESPN just said watch for UT an CBJ to close strong on signing day. That UT is in it with some big names. Was positive for UT... ESPN does not hate us as much.

The only thing about that is he could not coach them up.:)
