Dooley the administrator, recruiter, and coach

If tomorrow turns out to be the end of this era I will have a variety of emotions. Many on here will be in complete celebration mode and I do understand that and part of me will do the same but there will also be sadness. A man has failed in many ways to do what he has worked so hard to accomplish and that should never be a celebratory time. Why should all of has show some respect to this man??


1) DD the admistrator has done a fantanstic job running our program. Our off the field embarrassing moments have been very minimal and most of our young men make us proud off the field. If you had to give a grade in this area it would have to be an A

2) DD the recruiter has also done an admirable job restoring our roster to a talent level that winning bigs games should be expected. His VFL program has been very well excepted in recruiting circles and his grade would at least be a B in the recruiting department.

3) DD the coach has as most of us agree failed miserably. He has been the unluckiest coach in history but well prepared teams seem to get the breaks. If somehow DD survives this year we will have to pray that DD develops greatly in this area.

So many of us will bash DD for the coach he is/was but I hope all of us will respect the job he has done as a recruiter and administrator. For the excellent job he has done in those areas I fully expect the next coach to come in and win because of the foundation he has built. For that I will certainly have a big part of me that is saddened if tomorrow is the end.

In regards to him being a good recruiter, even that has fallen of this year. I wonder how heavily the fall off on the recruiting trail is going to weigh on the coaching decision.

I would agree with everything except 2) ... the recruiting still has a lot to be admired. He is still recruiting out of the top 10 which is not acceptable. Tennessee should be a top 10 team. Two and three star recruits just will not cut it in the SEC unless you want to see less and less wins each year.

the fall off in recruiting is due to irrational fans on boards...just ask jalen ramsey and jason hatcher or ortha peters...

I agree 100%.

But unless we already have our next coached lined up, then I really don't see the advantage of firing Dooley in the middle of the season. It sends a message to the team that the administration has given up on them. Not the message I would want to send to several of our players that have the choice to either go pro or come back for their Senior season. Players that we will need no matter who our coach is next year.

How can you say that recruiting has fallen off this year when NOT A SINGLE player has signed a LOI for ANY school in the country???

It's a business. Isn't it odd how many fans relate to a coach that they have never met or only met in passing in such an emotional way. I guess the reason is that many fans relate to college ball in such a personal way that the game transcends just being an entertaining atheletic event. If DD is terminated I'ill wish him well but I'm certainly not going to be distraught over it. He was paid well for his services and will receive one heck of a golden parachute. It's time to move on. Go Vols !!!

Did signing day come already? I missed it? I could have sworn signing day was in February?

he is not gojng anywhere, my bet is he is back in UT for his championship run!!!:eek:k:

As a head coach of a top program in the SEC, DD has been an abject failure. The pits.

Unless you are in his inner circle or have dealt with him personally, you really don't know anything about him as a person outside of football other than what somebody has told you. If the person that told you does not know him personally or dealt with him - they don't know anything about him. If you are depending on media representations you are already lost as a goose. You are getting info about him from a message board, which proves you don't know him personally beyond a fan appreciation day at best.

So let's forget the passionate love and kisses goodbyes for somebody you don't really know.

Nobody asked you to like him. But the turnaround he made with the program after the crap hole it was thrown into is worth appreciation.

I have no idea what kind of man he is and frankly I don't care. His results as an administrator and recruiter have been admirable and for that I applaud him. I am not personally invested in DD but that doesn't change the fact he is a human being.

I don't think Dooley will get much bashing when he's gone. He's done the job with enough class and dignity... just hasn't gotten it done wrt performance.

It'll be a short era in UT history--and most of it will be forgotten (I hope!).

Grades for DD.

1. Admin - B- (just this year Bray & Beer)
2. Rec. - C (he did good gettin JC players that wanted to step up not creating depth)
3. Coach - D (for DD) they dont coach the problem areas and get them fixed.

I agree. I hope the masses will see him the way I described In the op.

You're giving our fanbase a lot more credit than I am. But I'll hope for the best.
