Dooley taking a culture stand

With Hughes being kicked off the team for violating Dooley's rules, he seems to be reaffirming his message to his players...play by MY RULES or don't play.

How many high profile coaches would have let this kid stay on their team regardless of behavior, so long as the NCAA said they were eligible? I have a feeling he who shall not be named would have.

This is part of the culture change that Dooley promised, and I think it's refreshing to see him stick to his guns, even if it hurts us on the short run. Hopefully, the players he has/will recruit flame out at a lower rate than his predecessors.

I think the real message is that we're in a rebuilding mode and the fact of the matter is that there aren't very many players on the roster who are going to affect whether we win 7 games or not, so it's pretty easy for Dooley to take a "my way or the highway" approach.

He wasnt starting last year and Ayers played in front of him. Quality contributor he was.

I dont think this is as much a reflection of Dooley as it is Hughes. Doesn't matter what Dooley thinks if Hughes can't make the grades to continue at school. I don't think this was a difficult decision for Dooley

As I understand it, Janzen is making an effort to fix his problems. Apparently Montori wasn't.

Could it be you have a jaded view? If so you might want to give a kid some credit when he's trying to straighten out. And maybe the coaches for giving them a chance to do so.

I have a tough time believing that it mattered where Montori fit in the depth chart. His decisions, or lack thereof, led to this.

If Montori had John Henderson's talent, he would still be on the team. If Janzen's skills were more like those of the DB's on the 4th string and scout team, he would not still have a chance to rejoin the team.

Coaches are evaluated on wins and losses, and if you don't win you're cooked. That's why coaches let good players screw up and stay on the team. It's more important to keep your job then to make an example when millions of dollars are at stake.

it mirrors life. the better you are, the more you get away with. might as well teach them now that that is the way it is.

Oh good Lord, give me a break. I love Janzen, and I'm glad he's been given a second, third, and fourth chance. But seriously, if Janzen didn't have all SEC talent, do you honestly think he would have even made it past Pistolgate at the Pilot? The answer is no. This is the reality that is college football, and life in general.

If Montori had Henderson's talent, didn't put forth the effort and can't pass basket weaving, he would not be on the team. Some were asking last week how we can oversign and still make our numbers. Well, this is one way DD can easily do it, be fair to the kids and help the overall program. One more scholly for the next 4 years just became available.
