Sparty....you had me until Mullen.

Think about all of your issues with our secondary play and Sunseri (and you are hearing the same things I am about his coaching), and then consider how many defensive backs UT has recruited recently.

Dooley has managed to find enough scholarship players to field a team. He hired a great RB coach and a good OL coach. Otherwise he has been behind the curve.

There is a long list of affordable coaches that could have done more than Dooley has done.

I find his response to the question asked very telling. His deflection should sum the situation up.

He may not be concerned, but I bet his agent is burning up the phone lines to other programs.

Since I have less than 100 posts, I couldn't start a new thread, but I heard Jimmy Himes on 104.5 this morning saying that he heard from a "very reliable" source that Dooley will not be fired if he wins out. Jujst thought I'd share FWIW.

I put Mullen there because his offensive system is gimmicky and gimmicky in college can win some games. Not sure about his overall coaching talent yet.
Still not sure that a ton of coaches can play 5 straight against top 20 teams and have consistent success, but we need one that can.

He has at least brought MSU back into the rankings and stayed there this year. Something not easy to do at MSU.

I'm not as willing to concede the GA and SC game as most are. Both were winnable with solid, fundamental football. All that to say that the MSU game was a perfect barometer for the program. A UT program on the rise goes in and beats MSU handily. A ten point loss shows us that this program really hasn't improved significantly.

Offensively, we have improved. And I agree on those 2 games, but we had the ball in our hands to tie or win against SC, GA and Ms St in the last couple of minutes. If we don't turn it over, is DD then the man?

Can't believe the D. Really can't.

and we out Recruit them . It's taking less and doing more. No reason what so ever we should have lost this game .

Too many repetitive mistakes (especially on D) for me to believe the head coach has anything else to contribute.

When a team has a single opportunity to win a game on a last minute drive and they fail, it can realistically be blamed on the players, the day, the situation, or something else in a vacuum.

When a team consistently fails to take advantage of any game tying or winning opportunities in the important games and repeats the same mistakes, then that should be put on the coaches.

I really don't think he's worried about his job because he knows he'll have another coaching job pretty fast whenever Tennessee lets him go and if he does get our Vols turned around and winning in the SEC I think he's the kind of guy that would stay at Tennessee for 20 to 25 years unlike most other coaches who would move on as soon as their real dream job came around like laMe did to us.

He's known what high pressure SEC coaching is all about since his days at LSU and what it took to build them up to Win the SEC and then the national Championship so he just doesn't focus on job security and keeps working to get the kids and the program better.

We all know he's really upset at how this season has gone but not for himself or his job....he's more upset for our Vols players and how hard they worked and then to end up so disappointed.

Tiny was crying after the USCe game and I wouldn't doubt that other players were too and that's a sign that Tiny really cares and wants to win so badly and how bad it hurts them to leave the field knowing that just a few plays go differently in most every game and they would be ranked in the top 10 nationally and could have already Won the SEC East title.

I can't imaging how bad Sal and our defense coaches feel knowing that we put enough points on the board in most games to have Won every game except bama if only their D had been a few plays better in every game.

Winning or having a great year in business feels so awesome....Losing or having a really bad year in business is the pits and I know because I've been on both sides of that.

I want lots of Wins as badly as anyone here on VN but I really feel sorry for our players and coaches because they're the people feeling like total losers right now and trying hard to keep their heads up and work hard to win out and end the season the right way.

Never belittle and bash on anyone else until you've walked a mile in their shoes so you can really know and understand how they feel from their side of things.

Hyams was talking about Jimmy Cheek. His source said Cheek wants to keep Dooley if he wins out. According to others, this is old info and Cheek is either out of the way on this issue or already on board with replacing Dooley this year.

All rumors, all the time.

here is the problem. We have gotten worse since Dooley has been here. His first year team would beat this year's team. A lot of those guys had been coached by Fulmer and Kiffin and showed better coaching in fundamentals. I think Dooley is a really good organizer and is a great assistant...but being a head coach he has not shown that IMHO.

I reject the basic premise of this as male bovine feces.

The first year's team would not beat this year's team. It did, however, include a few holdovers from the Fulmer era that acted in a leadership capacity. The upper class members of this year's team are either Fulmer redshirts, Kiffin seniors, or Kiffin red-shirt juniors. There are a few Dooley juniors and most of those are juco additions. It isn't an excuse ... it is just a fact.
