Dooley says he doesn't think about his job status

True that there is no way he doesn't think about it. He can't worry about it though, just got to keep working and that's all anyone can do. The cards will soon fall one way or the other.

I actually believe him.

He was a Millionaire before he ever went to La. Tech and his wife is a Doctor so money isn't his motivation.

He quit being an attorney because he loves football and coaching the kids.

He's a very smart guy so he knew what he was walking into when he came to Tennessee and he didn't fear the task like all the other coaches did.

I think he just stays focused on the task and puts his head down and attempts to do the best he can everyday with what he has to work with.

He's always said he makes decisions on what will make our program the best for the LONG term rather than to just win 1 season and to be constantly rebuilding over and over again every year and that's why he went to the 3-4 defence when he knew he could get good, experienced coaches to start the 2 year training program so the kids would be alot better by next season when we have to go to Oregon plus our normal SEC schedule.

I really don't think he's worried about his job because he knows he'll have another coaching job pretty fast whenever Tennessee lets him go and if he does get our Vols turned around and winning in the SEC I think he's the kind of guy that would stay at Tennessee for 20 to 25 years unlike most other coaches who would move on as soon as their real dream job came around like laMe did to us.

He's known what high pressure SEC coaching is all about since his days at LSU and what it took to build them up to Win the SEC and then the national Championship so he just doesn't focus on job security and keeps working to get the kids and the program better.

We all know he's really upset at how this season has gone but not for himself or his job....he's more upset for our Vols players and how hard they worked and then to end up so disappointed.

Tiny was crying after the USCe game and I wouldn't doubt that other players were too and that's a sign that Tiny really cares and wants to win so badly and how bad it hurts them to leave the field knowing that just a few plays go differently in most every game and they would be ranked in the top 10 nationally and could have already Won the SEC East title.

I can't imaging how bad Sal and our defense coaches feel knowing that we put enough points on the board in most games to have Won every game except bama if only their D had been a few plays better in every game.

Winning or having a great year in business feels so awesome....Losing or having a really bad year in business is the pits and I know because I've been on both sides of that.

I want lots of Wins as badly as anyone here on VN but I really feel sorry for our players and coaches because they're the people feeling like total losers right now and trying hard to keep their heads up and work hard to win out and end the season the right way.

Never belittle and bash on anyone else until you've walked a mile in their shoes so you can really know and understand how they feel from their side of things.

I think he is doing the best he can to avoid the "job security" questions and focus on the coming game.

I didn't quote your entire post because there are a lot of folks posting here that are challenged to read it once, let alone twice.

Dooley's approach to rebuilding has shown a level of maturity that is beyond the grasp of most. The immediate gratification of winning is hard to ignore. The long-term gratification of a winning program will salve the pain of losing. I don't know if he will be back or not as I have stated. If he is, he will continue to build a program to win. If he is not, the next coach will have a solid foundation on which to build.

The SEC is business, big business. Dooley is over the last two years 1-7 and 0-5. That my friend is failure with a capital F. I hurt for our players because they have an incompetent bunch of coaches not putting them in position to win. As that brilliant Dooley said himself the SEC won't have Tennessee to kick around any more. He is a smart arse who is about ready to get what he deserves and no one on this board should feel sorry for this guy, you want to express feelings put them where they belong for the players who put it on the line for the incompentent Dooley who insults them, etc,. He admitted that he was worried about his hip when he didn't call a TO or challange the OB play. Take your crutches and walk your arse back to Georgia. He won't be on anyone's coaching list that is for sure. Cut bait, no school including Vandy would put up with 1-12 in the SEC.

Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) puked before game when he came to know he will be fired for failing in a single game! :p

The Gruden to Tennessee rumors are hot on the internet. I didn't put much stock in it until I googled it up this morning. Can't blame Dooley for not focusing on it- his job is tough enough already.

I wouldn't be worried about losing my job if I were guaranteed to receive a check for $5 million when it happens.

Ridiculous.

I would rather do a good job than worry about what I get if I got fired. The instant gratification doesn't make up for an internal sense of accomplishment.

What a shame, he doesnt let the fans reactions dictate his every thought. Im sure he knows the true status of his situation a little more than we do since he's the one that actually communicates with the A.D.

Those kids deserved it......Dools can't be trusted to tell them the truth about the true state of UT football right now, it's up to us fans to keep it real with the kids.

Think he was speaking of Dooleys kids, not the players. IMO

I think the rebuilding effort is just the opposite. It hasn't been the path of a mature seasoned coach, rather one that is learning on the job.

Has the situation improved....yes, but it could have only gotten better. More to the point, if Dooley was let go tomorrow how many rebuilding jobs do you think he would be offered?

He is out of his depth.

He is out of his depth.

Dead on with the last sentence.

Dooley isn't focusing on the hot seat. He can't. He is still "trying" to do his job. But at the end of the day when he is laying in his bed looking up at the ceiling before falling into that blissful sleep, he's thinking about it.

I don't disagree. But I also think there are only a certain set of coaches that could rebuild from where we were and given the totality of circumstances, which includes competing against Saban, Richt, Spurrier, Mullen, etc with recruiting disadvantages against our biggest competition. We need a special coach. Everyman isn't going to cut it.
