Dooley said he might appeal....

He should just chalk it up as HORRIBLE coaching, apologize to the players, fans, and his wife and continue on with life.

I hope this is a joke. His behavior at the end of the game was sickening. He should have shook Miles hand and taken responsibility for the loss instead of coming up with some crap about LSU snapping the ball quickly and wasting his time trying to appeal a call.

I don't understand why Dooley can't just man up. He screwed up. He has to understand that much so he can fix it.

One glaring problem, the 13 players set...weren't trying to sub out.

Nobody was trying to sub out that needed to go. It was a poorly executed sub. I imagine the rule is to protect teams that have their SH-- together and are trying to legitimately sub, but aren't able to get off in time.

Just say "Damn, that was our faults. We cost the kids the game" and move on.

They owe our players that much. This kids can figure it out. They're not as dumb as some of the VN homers here who never blame Dooley for anything.

What happens if the defense takes too long and the clock runs out? Just wondering, I've never seen that happen.

Not a factor. Making more sense to me now.

Defense has only two things they have to do before the snap of the ball. A) no more than 11 on the field and B) not be across the line of scrimmage on the side of the offense. If the offense is set and they snap the ball and either of these circumstances are true for the defense, then it's a penalty.

My question before was dealing with how the refs were handling the transition of the dead ball to it being set. I remember seeing LSU subs coming after the umpire placed the ball as live. Am I mistaken in thinking that an offensive team cannot substitute after the umpire has put the ball in play?

When ur inside the 10 on D with less than a minute u should have the personel u need already on the field.

When Dooley cools off, he will say the right things.

I don't agree. He has fire. Fact is when Kiffin did stuff like this last year, we praised him.

Once he reviews the play, he will realize there is no case.

Kiffin's team seemed better coached then this years team. At least when Kiffin was here we had something to look forward to because if he kept recruiting the way he was recruiting for a couple of years our talent level would have been on par with UF and Bama. Instead we have Dooley who isn't proving to be a good game coach and his recruiting is below average.

Something to look forward to? like probation?

They should review how many players LSU had on the field when they went to the line.

He's turning into Darth Visor throwing his headset on the ground numerous times.

LET HIM! This is exactly the kind of emotion we have needed for about the last 10 years. At least he acts like he gives a damn and gets fired up about things. God, some of you people will criticize anything and everything...I get so tired of it.

LSU-UT replay shows ref stood over ball after LSU's final subs and stood there until UT made its subs. Am I missing anything?

This is just not true. After Jefferson was tackled on the QB keeper, the umpire set the ball immediately and went back to his position. No ref was over the ball while LSU players were coming onto the field. But, after watching the replay LSU never approached the ball so they were free to substitute. If they center had moved over the ball then they would not have been able to legally sub players in.

Replay of the end of the game on YouTube (dunno how long it will remain up due it is prolly frowned upon by CBS):

Since when is the offense required to wait for the defense to be prepared?

The offense isn't required to wait for the defense to be prepared.

The rule is... if the offense subs, the defense has to have time to substitute.

That said, Dooley should NOT appeal this. It will look really, really bad on him and our program.

This is correct. The unfortunate thing of being an official (not SEC) and a Tennessee fan myself is that I knew we had at least 12 as the play snapped - I can't help but count players, formations, etc.. I was hesitant to celebrate, but when CBS wasn't acknowledging anything flag I thought I was wrong. After hearing Dooley's comment on this issue, I went back and watched. The umpire quickly got out of the way as he should have for a end of game situation, but he did run back in and cover the ball until all 13 of the players were on our side of the ball. The officials handled that scenario perfectly. There is zero case for this, and Dooley will see it on the film. 13 players were on the field, set, and there were still 5 seconds on the clock.

I couldn't disagree more. At some point, the players have to take some responsibility for things, when you see mistakes, it isn't the coaches. We're a lot younger this year and it shows.

Freeze the YouTube video at 2:00 exactly. The umpire has come back up to cover the ball. He clearly did that.

In terms of the handshake, it looked to me like he wanted to let Miles celebrate and not bother him, but I'm not sure.

Agree 100%...the previous coach had the team prepared to play, with very good sideline management. This BS did not happen last yr.

So....there is room for improvement or cycling of the staff.
