Dooley: "Right now we're like the Germans in WWII" POLL ADDED

What do you think about CDD's comments?

The families of the four Vols who were killed in WWII and memorialized in the south end zone might not find dooley's comments so funny. As a veteran myself I certainly do not.

I don't think he intended them to be funny or had you in mind when he made his comments.

I think we might have alot of WWII vets and their widows and peers who don't like having thier school's football team compared to the Nazi army.

Then we better trash our Abrams battle tanks which are modeled on German Panzers. Trash the B-2 bomber which is modeled on the German Horton 229 just to mention a few ahead of their times German concepts we have adapted to modern American military usage.

The analogy isn't about comparing our Vols to Nazis, it's about comparing the SITUATION the German soldiers defending the D-Day beaches faced.

Give it a break. He shouldn't have used that metaphor due to the (now obvious) fact that it would be misinterpreted. It's an appropriate metaphor for the situation, but not appropriate for the audience. Please delete this thread. It is only making Tennesseans sound uneducated for immediatley blowing up over a metaphor just because they don't understand the metaphor completley.

Yep!

It's an analogy, not a metaphor :)

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?[/QUOTE]

 Priceless. I knew it was coming, and still its priceless.

I posted this in the presser thread;

I bet Hitler is going to have something to say about him comparing the vols to the Germans...

Really? Then you're a lot more sensitive than most veterans I've ever met. The guy was just trying to use WWII as an analogy to one of the problems Tennessee is facing at the moment, in that, guys are just standing around waiting for orders, as a war goes on around them.

I thought it was a perfect, and well educated analogy.

Maybe DD can use some really cool props for his next 'performance' on Monday, complete with sound effects. Better bring the 'applause' prompt signs too for his 'audience'. He is indeed showing more and more to be a complete joke, to quote Clay Travis.

Quoting Clay Travis is the joke.

Probably. And the funny thing is Hitler wasn't German, he was Austrian.

He was using a relevant analogy. What do you geniuses expect him to say. "We are working like heck?" "We just have to keep working on getting better?" "We get a little better every week?" "We need to learn how to be better leaders?" Or, any other coach speak cliches or platitudes. It doesn't matter a hill of beans what he says. NONE!!!!!

This! Haters are gonna hate. CDD is a stand up guy. I get the analogy. GBO!!!

I knew somebody would go there. Nowhere does he mention anything about ideology. if you're worried about Nazi references, never use the term blitz again.

I haven't seen it yet; I have no doubt it is in the same vein as "Shower-Gate." He thought of something funny, partially clever to say, and he went with it off the cuff.

But if I've understood the analogy correctly, it works on exactly ZERO levels. Not the least of which being Dooley is Rommel in his analogy.

Regardless of mentioning ideology or not, it just flat doesn't work.

I will have a look soon and decide from my own viewing.

All the more reason not to compare the Vol Football Team to the Nazi army.

All of your above platitudes would be better. There's a reason why they are cliche.
