My HS coach "called players out" worse than that... Did any of you guys even ever play for a coach competitive enough to win?

this has been their private position since spring.. they were really hoping Gooch would be it but feel he is worse than Cody...

I am telling ya.....it's the dang Wilson FOOTBALL!!!!!!

No one can kick it, no one can snap it, can't be thrown over the middle......CRAP!

After listening to the audio, I am in agreement with those who do not take this to mean that he was throwing Pope under the bus but instead expressing the fact that Pope has been on a rollercoaster concerning his availability and medical situation or lack thereof lately.

didn't somebody yesterday say dooley was more richt than spurrier when it came to calling out players? all things equal, I'd rather have spurrier on the sidelines, so i don't mind him calling people out one bit.

NO! Everybody needs to stop dissecting every little comment. He's just saying its ridiculous how much has gone wrong with cody lately. Its not codys fault, he's not implying it is. The concussion or whatev in practice that led to a hospital trip, the stinger early n the game, him gettng his bell rung in the 4th quarter. Always seems to be something going on with him.

Agree completely. This forum should be a damn reality show. Good grief. Mike Hamilton, Phil Fulmer, and Lane Kiffin should split the bill for therapy for this entire fanbase.

What's sad is that this should've been fairly obvious to any intelligent person.

I take it that nobody heard the interview of DD after Pope was taken to the hospital ? He did the same thing and DD said the injury at the time wasnt even serious but they took him to the hospital to make sure and nobody took it calling him out then.He said Pope always has something going on.These are not 10 year old kids.If a coach calls them out so be it.I dont think he is trying to embarrsse anybody , maybe trying to get his attention.

I didn't focus in on either but both seemed to do OK Saturday. Do you think they played better than expected or did they scheme around them as a weakness?

I just heard his presser today, and he absolutely publicly hammered Pope. He said something along the lines of there should be a reality show about Pope because he has so much drama. He asked the press to give it a name. Very embarrassing for Pope nonetheless. I don't particularly like Cody, but I'm not sure that even Kiffin would bash his own players in public. Damn.

University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site He says it at 5:00

I can't view any media from the UT site. I can watch things from everywhere else, even Oregon, but not my own home vols. Anyone have any ideas?

Yet another win for the most ignorant fans in the country. He was poking at the media not Pope.
He wasn't making fun of the media. I think he was saying that Cody is one of those guys that makes every slight nick or injury into a major ordeal. I think it's like world cup soccer players that are flopping around on the ground like a fish on dry land, then you hit them with a little magic spray and they are off flying down the field 60 deconds later. That's what I took from it. I also don't think the slip during the game calling him "Candy" was a mistake out of nowhere. I think that was overheard in game prep from some of the players and it slipped out unintentionally. It all adds up to me.

I just listened to the entire press conference. Coach Dooley did call out several players--all of which was deserved. He also mentioned several plays that were misplayed without naming names. One of the players he did not call out was Cody Pope; he was making a joke. He also cited examples of players who were giving their all like Tauren Poole. As Coach Dooley said last week, this is big boy ball. Play like you are supposed to play or deal with the criticism.

yeah...thats not very professional. i know the guy has to toughen up...but you dont publicly call out one of your players...thats BS

Let me suggest a few for you over the years....Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Phil Fulmer, Bobby Bowden, Jackie Sherrill, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head who I've heard PUBLICLY calling out different players and in Spurriers case, the Whole Team....aka..."we just dont play like for Florida Gators anymore"....anybody remember that one....OF COURSE COACHES CALL OUT THEIR TEAM IN THE MEDIA....Happens every day

Good point...Stephen Garcia has been pounded by CSS and he is finally responding. The point is if a Coach rides you in practice or in public he believes you arent performing up to your potential. Otherwise they wouldnt waste their time and would write you off.

Everyone who thinks CDD was calling out Cody Pope is a 12 yr old girl. Period.

I watched The DD show and did not get that impression whatsoever. I read this thread and thought I missed something. Good grief.

so you heard/saw the press conf or are just going on a very vague (and possibly misleading) OP?

Dude. Did you read his post? He even gave the time in the video where it occurs. The evidence looks kinda strong. No? :fool:

This is big boy football, not t-ball. If a player is slacking, loafing or being a drama queen (or whatever you want to call it) then the coach has every right to call them out. I know my coaches did and you either sucked it up and got better or you were replaced by someone that would work for it.

Cody's special dietary requirements are a drama. In my experience people with drama diets are typically drama queens in other areas as well.
