I don't see anything wrong with what he said. Everyone is a little too sensitive these days, grow a thicker skin. He didn't directly call him out, he kind just hinted at it.

I agree. It SEEMED like MOST of the team quit in the later stages of the game. I have no problem whatsoever with the coach calling someone out. If you don't want to be called out, do your damn job, and you won't be. Jmo though.

Speaking of Craig James and i'll try not to highjack the thread, but does that guy ever suck. I got so tired of hearing him talk up Oregon it was sickening. I guess this week if Florida is struggling, Gary Danielson or that other homer will shout words of encouragement to the Gators all day. If that happens i might just have too listen to Bob as much as that pains me.

You are right Ocho. Its not a shot at Pope and his attitude, its the fact that he has had all these weird injuries during the past week.

There is no benefit to making fun of a player in public. If he had an issue with Pope he would have done it in private and let him know exactly what was expected of him.

Lets not make this what it isnt.

I have gotten to the point where I just turn the sound down and listen to the radio broadcast.

It didn't sound like to much bashing other than maybe he needs to get some of his personal **** straight. That is the way I took it while listening.

So he shouldn't call out players who don't make plays or aren't tough enough in his opinion? NFL coaches do it all the time, see Jeff Fisher. I have no problem with a coach calling players or coaches out, this is big boy football not some little league team. If the guys aren't tough enough to handle criticism they don't need to be playing ball.

I can't believe that people can handle coaches calling players out and what not. :crazy:

I have no problem with a coach calling a guy out for bad play or poor attitude. The OP made it sound like he was making fun of the guy's personal issues. That, IMO, is a douche thing to do.

I used to do that until they started showing the TV broasdcast on a delay. It's hard to do when you hear the call of the play then see it on TV seven seconds later.

I just watched the press conference, and unless there's some drama that Cody Pope (NOT CANDY!) has been involved in and is reasonably well-known by media/others, then the only logical conclusion to draw is that Dooley was referring to drama in the context of the number the injuries Pope has suffered. If he's questionable to play, that means Vols don't have a starting center until it gets figured out.

What was the question asked?

What was the tone of the response?

Was he responding to his play or his personal life?

Was the statement in jest?

That's how it is vague and misleading. Sure, he said it, but without context you get threads like these spiral into debates about nothing.
