when asked about tauren poole reaching 1000 yards, dooley didnt seem to know he was close and responded -- "oh please! did he go over a 1000? yeah i dont care about that, i mean.... i was mindful of trying to run out the clock out and get in here (locker room/press conference)... Maybe thats a bad thing to say" lol "he had plenty of opportunities to get over a thousand during the game"

This is Dooley at his best!!! how do you feel about it? should he have tried harder to make sure poole reached this milestone? IMO, no way, team first.

Its not really even a team first thing, TP danced way too much this season. OL woes aside he needs to be real about what he is, make one cut, and bust some heads. JMMFO

I love it, one of the best Dooley quotes I've seen, I agree, Poole had tons of opps to reach 1000, don't jeapordize the game to hand him a 1000 yard season, take the knee, take the win and get to the bowl game. I'm sure Poole understands and agrees.

The bowl games count in official NCAA stats now, so he can get his 1,000 yards in the MCB.

Poole will go over 1000 yards for the season during the bowl game. I had no problem with what CDD said. I doubt Poole did either. It's a great thing considering the O-line this year , but simply put CDD is just being honest. Poole had plenty of chances , but he is a team first player and I'm sure getting the win meant more to him aswell.

When you begin to worry about individual stats during a game, you will lose. He was correct in his philosophy. All of Vol Nation should understand that the journey back to a national championship has taken a colossal step forward with CDD this year. A broken psyche, an atmosphere of distrust of coaches and a splintered and divided fan base have been largely resolved over the course of this year. Keep up the good work Coach.

My personal opinion, I think Poole has disappointed a little bit. He has had a lot of good runs, but I wouldn't say spectacular or anything as some here made him out to be through the year. Solid player though.

He is averaging over 5 YPC behind an OL made up of 3 to 4 freshmen at a time.

I would just like to know why Poole is so inclined to cut his runs back to the inside instead of the outside. It has seemed he has cost himself a lot of yards due to that this year.

Poole was solid for us this year, few fumbles, broke many long runs. The fact we have a weak o-line isn't his fault. He did a great job this year.

GOOD GRIEF! When will this absolute idiocy stop? The guy just ran for just shy of 1000 behind THAT OL... yet that somehow isn't good enough for you. He did it as the consummate "team guy"- always putting the team ahead of his own goals. Poole "danced" when he was trying to make something out of absolutely NOTHING. He made several long runs because he made a second, third, and fourth cut/move.

Come on. Drop that non-sense or point to the guy who did better behind less of an OL.

Poole has improved from early in the season. Watch those games back in the beginning Poole seemed to chop his feet as he went through the hole anticipating a need for a cut back or a spin but now he is beginning to run forward make one cut and go and he is allowing that split second for the hole to widen or the play to develop in front of him..... I don't remember his stats for the last 3-4 games but they're probably not spectacular in terms of total yards rushing because right now our passing game may be the strongest in the SEC outside of Arkansas...I'm not used to this Pass first Run second offense but that is what is working

Poole had over 100 vs UTM, Oregon, and LSU early in the season.

I honestly cannot believe you guys are criticizing a RB who had 6 100 yard games and almost 1000 on the season behind this OL... really, I am amazed.

Not to mention Poole was the second best back on the team last year and did not get playing time. Sure there has been times he should not have cut back or hit a different hole. I'm sure you could make that statement for most any back in the country. I think Poole is an outstanding back. Glad he is a VOL.

Everyone on VN (except me and you) played and/or coached in the NFL at one time. Trust me, they are qualified to critique coaches and players in the lowly SEC.

I was surprised at Poole's yardage yesterday. I thought he'd have another 100-yard game. He's just six yards shy of 1000, and there were some missed opportunities. He's had a great year and, with a little more consistency, can have a better one next year. We need a balanced offense, and that means production from Poole and Oku.

You are spot on... We played as a team in '98 and we went 13-0 and brought home the big bling:yahoo: And YES we are moving forward and have an AWESOME future to look forward to... GBO!

I've noticed that all year long. I think I remember hearing Dooley comment in a presser at midseason that even his wife had noticed it . He seems to want to cutback and set up blocks rather than hit the jets and run for the corner. It's the exact opposite problem that most tailbacks have. Poole doesn't have blinding speed, but he's fast enough to get extra yards outside when it's there.

Don't take my post as straight up criticism. I've been happy with Poole this year. I am, however, interested to know if the coaches have tried to work with him in the direction if those cuts. It seems it's just a habit or style for him.
