Dooley on Janzen Jackson...

Why don't everybody just go home during the spring and come back in time for the next season! JJ is a liability both on the field and off.

Yeaaa.... cause were just so deep with nfl caliber athletes that have SEC playing experience all over our roster

I think if he had a drug problem he would've been permanently let go from the team and wished well. That wouldn't be tolerated like this at all. Remember he went home before the bowl game and DD hoped he'd get back for the game. That doesn't sound like a rehab issue at all. And I definitely wouldn't spread an unsubstantiated rumor like this that could ruin his reputation. I'm sure there are all kinds of stories out there. Everyone wants to be the person in the know.

"Drug problem" could also mean an addiction to painkillers prescribed by a team doctor for an injury, not necessarily recreational drugs. If he had such an addiction and had shown an honest effort in a losing battle, Dooley might be inclined to support him and not punish him for it. And assuming both departures were for the same reason, seemingly successful rehabs are often followed by relapses. So it's not necessarily unlikely.

That said, I agree with the bit about unsubstantiated rumors. Rehab is a possibility but it's just the easiest one to assume. He could just as well be fighting a severe case of clinical depression, no less crippling but nothing we should throw stones at him for. Hell, for all we know, he could have an OCD issue that makes leaving his dorm room a 3-hour ordeal. Who knows?

Whatever the deal is, people will speculate. Human nature. And arguably reasonable when it affects your team. But trashing him for behavior based on nothing more than speculation is lame. Until we hear substantiated reports that he's been caught in an unholy three-way with Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen or some such nonsense, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and just support his recovery. He is still a Vol.

Can we just have one person say they hope he gets better, and not say "and come back and play football for the big orange"?

That should be the farthest thing from anyone's mind.

Sounds like I am venting, but just once, I want to see a fan base err on the side of what is right, and not have a "but....." behind the sentence.

Let the kid get well and move on with his life. period.

That's an and not a but. We want both. Noting wrong with that. We're Tennessee fans. No one here is saying, "If Janzen doesn't come back I hope he never finds happiness." That would be messed up.

Agree. And when Janzen left in December, Dooley said, "Janzen Jackson is dealing with some very, very personal and family issues". That could mean a lot of things that have nothing to do with drugs...or even have more to do with a close family member. I just hate to see people speculating publicly about things that they really have no idea about. He really doesn't need to be hearing that stuff during a difficult time. I wish him the best and hope he does get to return to the team. If he really has been spotted on campus, that's great news.

x2. Whatever it is, CDD has this situation under control. I personally think it is more of a family issue. Regardless, my thoughts and preyers are with him.

Brewer is 6'2", 210 and reportedly runs a legit sub 4.4 forty. That makes him a very rare commodity. JJ is a stretch at 6' and hasn't been able to put on alot of weight. He's still playing below 190 IIRC. Ideally, he would slide to CB anyway. BB is nearly the ideal body to play S.

If he runs a sun 4.4 40 then why did he constantly look like one of the slowest players on the field last year...I'm not buying that

It was his first year playing the sport since 1993? You saying Jesus Christ couldn't hit a curveball?

I hope the kid gets the help he needs. The guy can only have a bright future if he does what he needs to do. Even if he came back, there will still be work for him to do.

Get your dollar out and buy now, because his mind wasn't at football speed yet. Four years away from football has its rusting effects, I'm sure. As the season went on, he got a lot faster, as his instincts started to return to form and the playbook and his responsibilities gelled.

The mental side of football can slow the fastest players down, put them out of position, lead them to bad angles. That makes them look slow when they're playing catching from thirty yards back.

He could hit your best cheese. Then turn the watercooler into wine.

If I remember correctly, a rehab center is right down the street in the airport vicinity. Nice place right out on the Tennessee River.
