Dooley on Hunter replacement

For some reason this reminds me of when Inky Johnson went down. Though not as severe as Inky's injury, its still as erie.

I hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Hunter. Hope he can get back to 100%.

Inky's injury scared the hell out of me for him personally. Hunter will comeback from his and play again.

No. It just didn't have the same effect on the team. Webb was one of the most naturally gifted RBs I've ever seen. I mean, Barry Sanders-esque, and I'm not playing the hyberbole card.

And yet an unsung senior, who would be excoriated by the youth on here today, came in and lead the SEC in rushing. One of my all-time favorite Vols, Tony Thompson.

Every time I hear the "Sullins Brothers" card played on here by the kids, I think of Tony Thompson.

Yes sir.

Inky was a beloved Vol. Still is, why am I saying was? Hunter is a great athlete who's track career may never develop the way he dreamed. That breaks my heart. All that aside from what I feel losing him as a football player.

The way I felt for him personally was much like the Jerry Colquitt injury. Both seem like such great kids and aside for how bad it hurt the team, in both instances, it hurt just knowing what it meant to them. Even a freshman Manning in that season was no comparison to what Colquitt would have done that year.

This one still hurts.

For those around long enough... is this about what it felt like when Chuck Webb went down in 1990?

This felt more like when Tony Robinson went down in '85 (like others have said) to me. I think it was somewhat easier to make up for Webb because of the rest of that team's experience. TRob's absence was pretty obvious against Ga. Tech (6-6 tie) and Memphis (17-7) even though we blasted Rutgers in between. I don't think many fans thought Daryl Dickey was gonna be up to what most of us thought of TRob's potential but he shined after about 3 games. Hopefully, someone will step up like Dickey did....and, even sooner. Also, maybe the D will play their hearts out even more to make all they difference they can.

Dooley now knows he has a get out of jail free card for a crappy season, accept it for what it is. I remember when Mike Shula coached at Bama, everyone said nice guy, son of a famous coach, plays by the rules....sound familiar?

I was 13 when Webb went down. Broke my heart. Unfortunately, he was never the same after that injury. Chuck Webb and Bo Jackson were the best running backs I have ever seen.
Webb had runs where people stood still as he ran passed them because he faked them out so much.

losing hunter for us, is like the bulls losing jordan or the lakers losing KOBE right after the jumpball and a easy score(since he had 1 catch). The confidence they bring to a team can not be duplicated. Any team young or old, when they lose there superstar it becomes tough. prime ex: PEYTON MANNING and the Colts.... I think we will bounce back from this lost, this was something we could not be prepare for. cdd we have some deep scars now, coach them up and lets win some games. 8-4 is not out the question.......lets go vols

I was there at the Pacific game when Webb got hurt! I had that same sick feeling Saturday that I had 21 years ago! Hope Justin has a better recovery than Webb!

Dooley is nothing like Mike Shula...Mike Shula had zero discipline with his players...Dooley does. Not even close to a comparison.

Hard to replace a world class athlete this guy may never be the same. Hopefully he has a healthy and successful recovery not just for the teams sake but for his future also.

We didn't have a snowball's chance against those two WITH Hunter.

BS.

I am as realistic as the next guy, but the score of these games are currently 0-0. We can win any game we play. Otherwise, why even play? Why doesn't Dooley just send a notice of forfeit with a letter of apologies to Saban and Miles.

To much talent at wr not to make some big plays,if the running game could do a little something the passing game could still be great. Where is the running game? GO VOLS!!!

doesnt matter who replaces Hunter. We have a bunch of steady guys behind him. Fact is we need to run the ball. If we run the ball effective last Saturday we win the game. Hunter is a major home run loss dont get me wrong, but we need the fix the run game. If we run the ball receivers will open up and we know Bray can find them. If we can run they lock down Rogers and Rivera and its a long season for us. O-line needs to step up. they have the size and they have experience. we need to make it happen.

Okay, the way I see it. As everyone knows, losing Hunter was a big blow(one of the top 5 receivers in the country in my opinion). The thing that amazed me was how Tyler Bray responded. This game sold me on Bray being the best damn QB in the conference if not the nation. Without the best receiver, with no running game, and a center that couldn't hike for some reason, Bray put up nearly 300 yards and 3 TDS. To me that was a Heisman Like performance, you can add a Golden Glove Award in there too~lol. I truly believe Arnette will do fine in Hunter's place. What we need is for Matt Milton to step up to the plate. I still believe we are an 8 and 4 team this year. We will upset 2 teams, maybe 3. Future is bright in Tennessee! Go Vols.

I remember Chuck going down also. It was a blow but the team pressed on. This team will need to find a leader that will help them press on. The team needs to find a center that can reliably snap the ball and then be able to block. The team also needs to practice special teams every day until they get sick of it or it becomes second nature.
