Dooley when asked who was going to replace Hunter: "Nobody."

Hurts. Let's hope we get it worked out. Lot of big games left

I was 8.

Yeah it's similar. Tony Thompson was a competent replacement, but we didn't realize that when it happened. Still, dropping from Webb to Thompson was significant.

Different approach.

Most would go on about how good of a player he was and how he will be missed the rest of this season, but we are moving on and looking for somebody to step up.

No Hunter, no run game. We better gimmick to death the defenses of Bama and LSU to have a snowball's chance

Sort of. A good running back has a lot to do with O-line. Tony Thompson came in and still rushed for over 100 yards.

A receiver is a little more of an individual position.

For some reason this reminds me of when Inky Johnson went down. Though not as severe as Inky's injury, its still as erie.

I hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Hunter. Hope he can get back to 100%.

Very much so. I was 11 years old and remember being crushed when it happened. Fortunately for Hunter, the surgery and recovery for an ACL is much more routine these days. Back then, it was a minimum 12 months recovery time and usually longer. Now, it is more like 6-8 months. Hunter has 11 months till fall camp, but they act as if he should be good to go by spring practice.

I was 7 so I couldn't tell the difference between anything on the TV as it wasn't Super Mario Bros.

... and Tony Robinson in '85. Sure do hope that this season turns out like 85, but who's holding their breath in here?

No. It just didn't have the same effect on the team. Webb was one of the most naturally gifted RBs I've ever seen. I mean, Barry Sanders-esque, and I'm not playing the hyperbole card.

And yet an unsung senior, who would be excoriated by the youth on here today, came in and lead the SEC in rushing. One of my all-time favorite Vols, Tony Thompson.

Every time I hear the "Sullins Brothers" card played on here by the kids, I think of Tony Thompson.

This was worse, because Bray, Hunter and Rogers had gotten totally in sync. They were a three-legged stool, and one of the legs came off. We lost the lynchpin of our offensive strategy, and with no running game, it will impact our season. We can compensate for 3-4 games, but the big SEC games will expose our weaknesses. Dooley's right-- no replacement, just work-arounds. Hopefully, that will be enough.

Arnett is going to replace him. No mystery there, he just needs the reps at the position.

That line that allowed Thompson to rush for 1200+ would have (IMO) had Webb in NY vying for for the Heisman with Detmer & Ismail, though he likely wouldn't have won being only a RS So.

IMO, this is more severe.

1990 - We had capable backups but none with the talent Webb possessed. The offense was a simpler one with a more run oriented approach with play action and roll out passing behind an OL that was more than capable of accomplishing that task. Tennessee's offense was not designed for high scoring affairs back then and losing Webb, although devastating, wasn't as critical as some believed.

Fast forward 21 years and we have a different scenario.

Hunter is lost for the season in an offense that appears to be one dimensional now. JH was a 1/4 (on avg.) of that yardage production and play making ability for the team. Take that away and you have obvious problems with no clear replacement available.

The "Replacement" receiver is going to have HUGE numbers this season. Da Rick will be double teamed from this point on and the "Replacement" receiver will be one on one the rest of the season.
This will be a coming out party for someone in the receiving corps!!!!!

It was more painful for me when Webb went down. Hunter has shown signs of being a dominant player. Webb was already dominant. On a brighter note, Webb was injured the night that i met my future wife on a blind date.
