It was a different Dooley than I have heard. When asked what he has learned about coaching a large program; He admitted that going 37 days after the KY loss was a huge mistake and he should have spoke a couple of times instead of letting it build. He also took responsibilty for the team not being a team. He said the coaches including him need to build a team concept. He also said that depth should be to a point that they can create competition and not have it where one injury kill a season. He also addressed the the running game was horrible and that will be a focus. He also said part of the problem is some of his players aren't strong enough- even some of his big ones. I was listening to it in the car so may not be word for word, but that is the summary.

Dooley grows as a head coach each day. This is what we should expect. I'm not surprised by his comments.

He's still a very young coach with not much experience as the head man at a place like Tennessee. I think he can be a good one, if we have a great season I think its his springboard as a coach and a springboard for our program

I think everyone envisioned Dooley with his head in the ground for weeks after the Kentucky game, but I remember a lot of people saying that not having to "worry" about a bowl game would be good. Get out their and recruit some studs to make us better. I think that's exactly what he did. That he had to hire six new coaches in the process only further strained his time.
I know that we all love coaches like Pearl was, but he was the exception as far as talking every time a microphone was within shouting distance.Dooley is Dooley, but I think that when he does talk or is on camera that he represents the school very well. He has a very keen sense of humor. He had a huge hill to climb with this program and I think we can finally see over the top of that hill. Let's support him, the new coaches and team. Better times are on the horizon.:peace2:

Hyams came on after Dooley, and it was as "insightful" as ever. First, he talked about how Dooley apparently had problems with being too soft on players and not disciplining enough. About a month ago, wasn't he saying that some players didn't like how Dooley was so angry on the practice field and yelling profanity at players?

Then, he said that to run the ball better, our linemen needed to do three things: 1. get stronger, 2. use better technique, and 3. block with a running mentality. I wonder if I changed my name to Jimmy Hyams and recited football 101 that people would listen to me and pay me money for it...

I agree with this quote. I'm not 100% sure Dooley will be the guy that brings us back to glory, but I'm also not convinced he won't be. I give him slightly better than 50/50 odds. I think he really, really wants to be a top coach and he is working extremely hard to get there. Given his pedigree, intelligence and his good way with the media and with recruits, I think he just might be able to do it. I really hope he can - I've grown to really like him over time.

Everyone makes mistakes. Sounds like CDD knows when he does and takes steps to correct it.

I get a differant vibe from seeing the new coaching additions. I hope that rubs off on players. I think it will.

Go vols.

Sounds like he threw the team under the bus again by calling them weak pansies.
Fire Dooley.

lol

What you did there--yeah--I see it.

But, in all seriousness, I'm all for the Dooley, and I hope he can get us back to winning and is with us for a long time to come. GBO

But back to Dooley, I think the Vols are gonna have a solid 8-9 win season this year, and I'm excited about that for him and for the program. Look at the team he's assembled through recruiting the last three years in some of the darkest days of the program. I'm excited to see who he can get when the program will FINALLY be seen as one that's on the rise.

Kind of a head scratcher to me.

Coach Dooley's silence after last season seemed appropriate to me. The man did what was needed for himself and the program. If you consider the mood of the fans then and now, what a change! So, what's next? Beating NC State...that's what. Go Vols!

PLEASE STOP QOUTING THAT DEGENARATE!!!
I have him on my ignore list for a reason.:hi:

They say that you can tell a lot about a man from the people that hate him. DD must be a pretty good guy because his haters are the biggest group of tards I have ever ran across. And that has nothing to do with whether they are right or wrong about his coaching ability.

This coming from the guy who said USC is a more attractive place and a big part of that is because their fight song is better than Rocky Top.

A) If you're a fan, Rocky Top should be the sweetest sound your ears can hear

B) Rocky Top isn't even our fight song
