Someone posted in another thread comparing the UT and UF situations, UF needed an oil change and UT needed a complete engine overhaul, that pretty much sums it up. We are putting the engine together, it is just going to take time.

I like what DD is doing in recruiting, we are getting good players in here and we will be successful. When you may ask? As long as it may take. That young team could have mailed it in after going down 30-7 but they hung tough and fought to the end.
How many times have we watched UT teams quit? More than i want to count.

We are young and with time we will get better, you just have to be willing to wait for the results. Stand behind this young team, we are far from done.

His recruiting just fine. It takes time for recruits to become contributors even on the best teams with the best players. Hard to win all your games when your best players are freshman and sophomores no matter their talent level. When we have a full roster of talented players like the last two recruiting classes, which we will in a year or two, then our talent level will be good enough to beat anyone. Takes time to rebuild a team that was full of walk-on's and busts in the starting lineup.

I agree Dooley needs more time but players change position all the time. Our converted DE to DT is 1st team all sec and our MLB was all over the field yesterday. I'm starting to have some big concerns though. We don't have and don't seem to be recruiting the right kind of running backs for a zone blocking scheme. We are also recruiting bigger/slower lb'ers (except Maggitt) which isn't good agaist the speed of the SEC. We still have nothing on the board at DT and we don't need 1-2 of them we need 3-4 minimum. CDD said we he came here he would like to go to a 2 TE set with no fullback but we have recruited two running backs this year that have fullback written all over them especially if we are going to continue zone blocking. During bowl practice last year CDD said the Oline couldn't use youth as an excuse any longer because they had played alot of football but every week the youth card is still being trotted out there. The problem with the Oline is the zone blocking scheme it isn't a talent issue. If we had a running back with burst that could fit through tight spaces and cut on a dime our Oline would look much better. It's extremely hard to pass block with no threat of a running game. We have little chance of beating a top 10 type team if Dooley doesn't find a running back. Personally I love smash mouth football and not being able to run the football makes me sick. Nothing wrong with throwing it around but if that's all you got your not going far in the SEC.

GIVE DOOLEY TIME... OUR D is currently making do... We have zero DT's outside of Jackson.... We have 1 real good DE in Smith and we are starting 2 Freshman LB's and both are good, just young. Magget has a chance to a superstar.

We are at 77 scholarship players, and a sizable % of these never play. I follow your example- Hood and Austin Johnson would be solid backups, and Malik would be a great strong-side DE. And AJ Johnson is a MLB, but he's been in the system for 2 months. Our best DB had a drug problem, so we play solid (but not spectacular) players like Waggner and Randolph in his place. We just don't have enough horses right now.

There used to be a time when we would replace a Jamal Lewis with Henry. But we're razor thin due to poor recruiting and excessive attrition. He needs a couple more classes before we can fairly evaluate him.

If we had hired a Big name coach we could have retained our RB's who chose to leave and we could have recruited 4 and 5 star recruits instead of 2 and 3 star ones. We will be lucky to be 6-6 this year.

I am hoping that we get Peyton to come back at some point and coach this team.

Peyton? IF he coaches someday, it will be in the NFL, do not fool yourself.

We are just as young as their team. They started 2 true freshman in their secondary. I am tired of the youth excuses.. Florida didn't use any as they spanked us to the tune of 30-7 in the 3rd qtr.

I like Dooley. However, our "character" was irrelevant as our team was getting physically manhandled in every way possible Saturday. I think Dooley is an intelligent job on how he is piecing together this team.. But if we want to ne serious contenders ever again he has to start getting some of these 4-5 star studs.. I think he is starting to see this..

Hate'em or love'em, but Phil always fielded a supremely talented squad.. He kept us within the top 5 classes year in, year out.. If we can't get back to that then I think we may be headed to long-term mediocrity.

Brown and Oku have done nothing since they left. Oku wouldn't be on the field if he stayed at Tennessee. I don't even know if Oku is on a team at this point. Last time I heard about him , he was in jail. As for recruiting , we got a 4 star last year. He has scored in every game so far. If the line will block , Marlin will be something special.

As for Brown , I don't think he even wants to play football if you read what Snyder has said about him. He didn't sniff the field against Kent State and 4 other running backs did. Brown did an interview not long ago and said he still loved Tennessee and even liked Coach Dooley. Sometimes I wonder if he was leaving no matter who was the coach. It seems his daddy had his mind made up no matter who was running the show. I think deep down Bryce wanted to stay here , but as far as him making a difference , who knows? He could be acting the same way here as he is at K-State. Just another body on the sidelines. In other words , just like the ones on the sideline yesterday. With that said , I'm not sure Lattimore would have done much with the way the line played yesterday. God help us against LSU.

He did through 2001 then it started to slip. His 2006 and 2008 recruiting classes were extremely poor by Tennessee standards. The talent, along with everything else under his watch, deteriorated greatly during the 2000s.

Need to use most ofall remaining spots in this years class on DT and DE. We need REAL DT's that have played the position for a number of years. Jackson is doing very well but is undersized and Hood is MIA and simply not very strong. He was consistently on roller skates during the game and being pushed back. We have unable to recruit a STUD DT now going on 3 years. WHY???? The elite teams in the SEC have big and powerful DT's, we do not.

I know I ve posted a **** ton today but with all this **** that people saying this is well needed. Dooley will be a very successful coach he just needs more then one year to be a NC contender...come on everyone knows that just give him time and we will be back and stop with all the negative posts and **** its really annoying. By the way if your going to be a troll and try and bash me for this I don't give a crap I stand behind DOOLEY AND THIS TEAM...We are the best fans lets start acting like it GO VOLS!!

in 2-3 more years after he builds up the talent, dooley will be able to compete with florida and alabama.

Anything less than 9 wins in 2012 and the grumbling is valid. Even if the depth problem isn't completely solved, it should be doable with the favorable schedule.
