Dooley Makes A Good Point

That has to be a record for me.

I can understand youth being an excuse when you line up against Bama, Arky, and LSU. Youth should not be an excuse when you play Vandy late in the year and in Neyland. Your young guys have to show some progress by now. Playing Vandy and playing in Neyland should set the stage for them.

Our number 1 qb is a sophomore who is just returning from having surgery and our number one returning scorer also a sophomore has a torn acl. We have 1 jr on our offensive line, the rest are freshmen or sophomores, with 2nd year coaches trying to do patch work with the line. What can you expect, our leadership is coming from players who were just put in to the program last year... Im not saying we are going to lose but im saying if we do it isn't the end of the world, we still need time. On the other hand vandy has like 20 returning starters, and their qb is lighting it up right now. Btw how close was the game between uga and vandy, the team that will probably win the east. Aren't y'all the team also that has completely under achieved 2 or 3 times in the past 5 years! What were your excuses?

If I hear this guy use this excuse one more time, I might take a hostage. Montana had nothing but seniors. Why didn't they light us up???? Because we had more talent. Same goes for Vanderbilt. If we lose, it's because their coach has them motivated and he's getting 100% out of every player. Dooley is simply not, and if he loses this game, it's on him and the staff.

Now that I've said that, I want to make it clear that I do think we win...despite the staff. Bray is the leader of this team, and this guy won't lose to Vanderbilt at home.

Do u like the new thundercats show?

Vandy is good. I've stated that already.

Our team was a mess the last couple of seasons. No excuses for it, we were just a mess all around.

With all due respect. The "youth" that is being talked about should be experienced enough to take down Vandy at home. Sure your team is made up mainly of Freshmen and Sophomores, but we are in the end of the season already. Youth cannot be the reason why you lose to Vandy.

please share with us the reason/excuse for the dawgturds being one play away from losing to Vandy this year.

can't be lack of experience, now, can it?

Interesting perspective. I am actually not a "hater". I love the Vols, and I have said numerous times that I hope Dooley is the guy. He's likable, and I'd love to see him pull this thing out. I realize it isn't always coaching, I am simply pointing out that if we lose to Vanderbilt at home this season, it will be because of coaching.
Now, can you consider for just a second that maybe you may be kidding yourself to make the reality of our situation a little more tolerable? You don't even have to believe that, just take a breath and consider for one second that you might be wrong. Clearly most of you are refusing to do that.

since everyone else is disagreeing with this guy, I am going to agree. I like that you are expressing what you feel. I think there has to be some point where, no matter injury, "youth", struggle, you have to find a way to show some emotion other than just "were young guys, and we just arent making the plays!" (in a dooley accent). I think Dooley is a great fit for us, but something has got to happen. The man has a point, if something doesnt happen next year, there really is not much excuse. Because a school with the prestige and support like ours is above and beyond excuses. WIN!

Vandy was a different team with Rodgers at QB. The kid can throw it and can run on you.

Our team lost their composure that game. We were not focused and the game got out of hand. We may have overlooked them.

In the end, we still won, that's all that matters.

This excuse could be used forever. New players could come in and the coaches could choose to play them over older players because they are better. I don't want to hear this excuse one time next year.

Or you will do what????

:mf_surrender:

Lets look at facts in this, we will have a very solid defense the next 2-3 years. I am very excited to watch this defense grow.

This stat does not bear that fact. If I have 10 freshman and 1 senior on my defense I bet I could say 10 of my leading producers are freshman. It doesn't mean that there are 10 freshman producing great results it just means that 10 freshman are playing most of the minutes. It in no way indicates any of them will ever be great producers. The fact that this was determined as a "good point" is just silly.

Sad.

While I can understand your point on talent and maturity, I also feel a more qualified coach and staff would have done a better job. Dooley's last name and his charm in speaking I am sure won him over with the committee but the fact remains he has not had success coaching a relevant program. Beating Montana, Buffalo, Middle Tenn, Vandy (again we hope) and Kentucky will not lead to a lenghtly tenure in todays age of immidate success. When Tennessee has to claim a win over Cinncinatti as a key victory, well that is unacceptable.

Next year will be the tell tale year. While I hope he succeeds for the sake of our Vols, I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling at this point.

OK, I will use just one coach as an example here, CCB. Is he not considered one of the best WR coaches out there?

Why in the world can he not make both Rogers catch the ball or make the other guys run the right routes?

Is that coaching or lack of focus by the players?

Vandy is good. I've stated that already.

Our team was a mess the last couple of seasons. No excuses for it, we were just a mess all around.

well why dont you go to your own board and celebrate this season with your own fans, why do you feel the need to come to a volunteer board and post your opinion on our problems? i hope uga turns it around and is competitive every year just like i hope we do, it makes for an exciting football season where any thing can happen. i dont like goin to another fans site on a down year and telling what excuses they can a cant have. who cares what we talk about on here... bec personally i could care less what yall talk about on your boards.

As noted b4, this board is chock a block full of passive aggressive comments. I like CDD BUT...he cannot win..he has not won...he makes excuses..he has no discipline. Then why like him?

Perspectives here are like political views, no one is going to change them. If you like 999, then nothing said is going to change it...

Personally, I like CDD and although I'm aging, I will have to satisfy myself w/ waiting for him to restock, reload, and return to top competitive status.

Quit making excuses. Shat gets old quickly.

We're young. Anyone that can read a gameday program can figure that out. No real need to remind everyone.

Next year we are JRs and SOs (that have the game experience of most JRs and SRs), with FR in back up positions instead of having to start. Instead of looking for steady improvement as a gauge Ws and Ls will tell the tape.

Good ole Dooley never, stepping up to say "hey we as coaches will take blame for some of this, we need to get them a little better prepared for the game. Or hey maybe we should call the right plays in certain situations. Nah lets just blame it on the players and how young we are that will be better."

blah blah blah....... Quit making excuses for the coach. He does a great job of that on his own..

Just tired of hearing it. Who does not already know that we are young? Anybody? Bueller???
He keeps reminding us of why he's not succeeding instead of telling us how he's going to overcome it and how the players are getting better.
Youth and inexperience is an excuse to make in year one, or maybe even early in year two. We are at game ten of season two. C'mon Dooley, give that excuse a rest. If you insist on justifying why you aren't getting production, why not find another reason...like maybe you aren't developing them well. Maybe you aren't motivating them and getting them prepared to play.

Being a former player...coaches don't motivate you...they coach you and teach you and train you. If you are playing Big time D1 football at Tennessee you don't need motivation. Winning-Tradition-Championships is motivation. Obviously you only hear what you want to hear from DD!! Listen closely next time. Take the Blinders off.

:crazy: i just threw up in my mouth

Part of me agrees with Panthro. Opposed to depth and talent, there are three things IMO that a coach CAN control.

1. Play calling
2. Fundamentals (of course players play a part here too)
3. Passion, getting the team fired up.

To me, the coaches failed in these three areas against Arkansas, and while youth played a big role, our coaches didn't come to play. We all know Dooley gets next year. He was dealt a poor hand, I get it. But next year I agree with you Panthro, no more excuses.

Look at all these "winnable" games:

Georgia 2010
Georgia 2011
South Carolina 2010
South Carolina 2011
LSU 2010
Florida 2011
UNC 2010

By my count, Dooley is 0-7 in these games. Take any one of them alone, and sure we are supposed to lose, but I don't think it is unreasonable to expect our coach to steal one or two of them.

I still have faith in Dooley, but next year, these are the games he HAS to start winning. He's recruited well, and I think the personnel will be in place next year to make a statement.

PS. Concerning the fact vs. excuse argument. Why are they mutually exclusive? Can a fact not be used as an excuse?

Also, let's be fair to Dooley concerning the Arkansas game. He admitted the coaching was bad, and didn't make any excuses for it.

Sophomores and freshmen, first/second year juco players starting on defense.

Randolph - 2nd year in program (true freshmen)
Lanier - 2nd year in program
AJ Johnson - 2nd year in program (true freshmen)
Maggitt - 2nd year in program (true freshmen)
Denico Autry - 1st year in program
Mo Couch - 2nd year in program
Damien Jacobs - 1st year in program
Justin Coleman - 2nd year in program (true freshmen)

There's 8.

How can true freshmen be in their 2nd year in the program? C'mon Drunk Johnny put down the drink known as haterade, out of the 8 you listed there are only 2 players out of the 8 that are on their 2nd year

Also, I didn't know Autry and Jacobs were starting.
