Dooley Makes A Good Point

I just hear another exuse. I counted several experienced players on that 3 stooges punt return in the Arkansas game.

Experienced players make mistakes too so...? I think Dooley is just frustrated like a parent telling their child not do something and they do it anyway. Then when he's repeatedly asked why they continue to mess up, he tells it like it is.

If I hear this guy use this excuse one more time, I might take a hostage. Montana had nothing but seniors. Why didn't they light us up???? Because we had more talent. Same goes for Vanderbilt. If we lose, it's because their coach has them motivated and he's getting 100% out of every player. Dooley is simply not, and if he loses this game, it's on him and the staff.

Now that I've said that, I want to make it clear that I do think we win...despite the staff. Bray is the leader of this team, and this guy won't lose to Vanderbilt at home.

Take me as a hostage, sounds like you live in a dream world and I want some of it.

If i remember right, Fulmer lost alot of games he shouldn't have.

Memphis St. How in the he!! did they lose to Tiger high with that team? It was the first time I realized the Fatness was not a good gamer. Call DD a bad coach when he actually loses one of these games, with all-sec talent all over the field.

how would that be possible?

Sophomores and freshmen, first/second year juco players starting on defense.

Randolph - 2nd year in program
Lanier - 2nd year in program
AJ Johnson - 2nd year in program
Maggitt - 2nd year in program
Denico Autry - 1st year in program
Mo Couch - 2nd year in program
Damien Jacobs - 1st year in program
Justin Coleman - 2nd year in program

There's 8.

I bet the same thing will be said next year.

It may very well be, when all of the freshman starting this year are still starting as true sophomores ... but I'd be willing to bet there will be a lot less people complaining in 2013 when this is a legitimate SEC roster and a Tenn team is competing for an East title

What freshmen do you see starting or even contributing that much next year? Or even players that are first year in the program? I see one on offense, and maybe a couple on defense. The same thing will not be said next year because it can't be.

juco's aren't youth and neither are second year starters. Look to some of Wilcox's comments on why it's been difficult

Trying to say Dooley will call a 4th year college football player young is a huge stretch

Experienced players make a lot less mistakes.. that's kinda why they are referred to as experienced. Surely you cannot be as dense as you are coming off.

Experienced= been there done that.. not been around and never got a clue but still hanging around. Even among our upperclassmen we have very little experience on this team.

If you have that many guys making mistakes then the only explination is that coaching is not holding these guys accountable and demanding perfection. Alignment mistakes and should be worked out after game one.

Tackeling should have been addressed before the the season started.

DOOLEY and HIS STAFF have to do a better job coaching! Period!
:yess:

Again, focus on the part about multiples. Think about what he is saying.

"Demanding perfection" is all well and good, but the point is when the raw group is as large as the one Tennessee is dealing with...mistakes are going to be common and glaring.

Experience isn't just games on the field. Its dozens of games, multiple off-seasons (with the same coaches/systems, mind you. Something a significant chunk of UT does NOT have), months of individual voluntary work, etc, etc.

There is a segment of fans that unloaded the couches and TVs while the footers were still being poured...and are now pissed that they can't move in.

Fulmer was out-coached that Saturday. I remember it well, unfortunately.
That is my point. You people are reading one or two of the sentences I've written and you're just getting carried away. I don't hate Derek Dooley or want him to fail or anything like that. I haven't even said that the youth issue isn't somewhat legitimate. I'm just tired of hearing it. When he uses it over and over again, it reeks of desperation. It sounds like he's preemptively trying to get a pass on losing to Vanderbilt.
My point was simply that with the overuse of that excuse, he's trained you all to where you are blind to the fact that we DO have more talent than Vandy, and we should win that game at home tomorrow, Tyler Bray or no Tyler Bray.
I'm just saying that if we lose to Vanderbilt at home tomorrow, it will be because their guys were more prepared for the game, and maybe even wanted it more. NOT because most of our guys are 20 years old, and not 21 like Vandy's.

Agree and disagree with some of the above. I believe a lot of the special team problems is an ego thing. Everybody wants the big hit, the highlight film, the top ten play on espuney. All these players know how to wrap and tackle or they woudn't be there. They want the big crowd pleasing hit, and there are many many running backs now days that are talented and have balance enough to survive the hit and keep going if not wrapped up and taken DOWN. Its the basics. Now go out there and beat the crap out of them Dores. jeeez

The good thing about having youth get all this experience is that starting next year and 2013 they should be beastly. Next year youth will be much less of a factor, we will still be a tad younger then most teams, but not nearly as bad as this year and by 2013 we will have a field full of upperclassman.

If dooley can't win the SEC at that point then the Hater's around here will have a leg to stand on.. Until then you guys screaming this nonsense are just hurting our team in morale and recruiting. I am begging you to just put it away for now and try to help build up our team instead.

That is fine. But I gurantee you if we beat Vandy on Saturday that you won't see Franklin flaunting the youth card. He will say the played poorly and that is that.

Is it possible because his team, especially on defense, isn't a young team?

can you defend the fact that we are not young this year? Is he wrong?

That's not what I'm saying. I've been "defending" Dooley at this point in his tenure. I understand the dumpster fire he inherited.

My point is that next year I don't want to hear anything about youth and inexperience. This signing class will be his second full class, plus the guys he brought in the month he was hired. (Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers come to mind.) We're bringing back 20 starters next year... 21 if you include Herman Lathers.

We're not gonna win the SEC next year, but we have some serious organizational problems if we don't get 8 or 9 W's during the '12 season.

I would say that Dooley's coaching is like his players unloading the couches and TV's While the footings are being poured and being told it will be 12 weeks before you can move in, then showing up the next week while framing is going on and again being told it will be 11 weeks, then again the next week and being told 10 weeks and so on and so on. Instead of Dooley telling these guys they better shape up and listen and jumping there butts he looks at the construction guys and says, Sorry guys they are freshmen and sophmores. They'll get it on about the 13th week.
