Dooley > Kiffy, but............

I think this may be a good hire, considering the cicumstances. I don't think anyone with a "name" wanted to come here at this point in time w/o leaving their own program in the lurches. He has a good background. Worked his way up, has to be halfway intelligent, played a lot of close games this year, even if in the WAC. He also has a good rep for recruiting. I think it's funny all the people who said Muschamp would leave for Georgia when that job became open and now the same thing is being said of Dooley. I think this might turn out just right.

Kiffin is a media darling, that's it. No substance, just his very smart, and well-respected Dad to back him up.

I ask you this, how many 7-6 seasons have you considered a success before this one?

BTW, 5150, I really thought you were abused posting your hate of Kiffin. That said, I can see now that the only hire you would have liked would have been CPF.

yeah its my first post here

And Iagree totally with the original poster, how in the world can a program with UT's storied tradition not draw some interest from a highly touted coach?

would like to know who was contacted and interviewed about the job

The lack of interest in the job makes me wonder if something is not going on behind the scenes.
Timing...it's 3 weeks before NSD. Most coaches wouldn't leave their program at this time. This is a huge step up for Dooley.

No...Phil's time is over. I'd chose Dooley over Phil anyday. That being said, this wasn't exactly a good hire. Better than the Kiffin hire, but just not that good.

Were they available? Would they have come here?
I feel sorry for you sir. It must be a very sad way you live your life.

So I guess your point is, that since no coach is a "guarantee", it really doesn't matter who we hire.

I am saying go for a coach that has shown he can win championships (either Conf or national). IS THAT TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? Or is it you'd just rather argue?

Let me break this down for those of you (OP) who just don't get it. We are two weeks and change form NSD. Tennessee wasn't going to get ANY top shelf coach to leave their top shelf program this close to a pivotal day in CFB. I f Kiffin had checked out in October or March we'd have been in a lot better shape. We are lucky to have goten ANY D-1 coach to come here, much less one that has an SEC background. Instead of tearing the guy down before he has a chance to show wht he can do, why not give the guy at least a fair shake before deciding "Good hire/Bad hire" before the ink is even dry on his contract.... Most all of us just jizzed all over ourselves when Kiffin got hired thinking "Happy days are here again..." Maybe hiring a lesser known guy who knows the landscape will work out better for us.. I guarantee you we won't get embarrassed (and have to defend the coach time after time afer time after TIME) by Dooley like we did Kiffin.

And I remember having a lot of "hunh???" thoughts when CLK was hired ...

But first two tests: 1) assemble staff, 2) salvage a recruit class on short notice.

So, we 'bout to find out ...

Because I do not agree with you, you think that I do not understand your point. BRILLIANT
I like the fact that DD is willing, and not scared, of coming into the mess that we are right now. All these "proven winners" that we went after, were NOT.
So instead of pissing and moaning about the hire, check out his bio and realize that he has paid his dues and took a job that was more of a challenge than most of his piers. I am glad we have him.

I did not respond to your ramblings about Kiffin...not going to respond to the real statement of my post huh?

You're kidding right? Your point that Dooley "isn't scared", and thats what you like about him? Wow. That is the most insightful thing I've ever heard. It was so insightful that I couldn't respond.

Really man.....there is no job I would be afraid to take if I were going to haul in over $1 mil.

You are amazing. Yea, that is the ONLY reason that I like him. You are not worth this conversation.
Have a great life. Try being happy at least once before your are gone.

Please tell me ONE coach that is a GUARANTEE of being a winner.

nothing can be a complete guarantee however winners win and losers well they lose.. look at saban and meyer
saban took over a 6-5 toledo next year 9-2, 3-8 LSU to 8-4 took AL to NC Meyer same thing 2-9 Bowling green to 8-3 , 5-6 utah to 10-2 to UF to NC. Great coachs elevate the play of college kids they are winners who find a way to win

I should have finished reading the thread other poster used the same examples of coaches but there are more examples

I'm sure it's been said on here somewhere......but I would hate to try and find a coach right now.

Those that turned it down, other than the pipe dreams like Gruden (huge contract with ESPN), Dungy (forget it) and so on, did so because maybe they have a little class and weren't about to leave this close to signing day? I really do think some of them said no with this being one of the factors.

Go Big Orange!
