10-2 is what I see for them, without having seen their schedule. Next year I think could be a year where USC is in the hunt for a national title.

Only after numerous others turned USC down. The rag tag band of mercenaries was way down on the USC list, and was hired based partly on the promise to bring back Norm Chow--which never materialized.

I am with the OP. I'll take the current coaching staff over the previous one any day.

The way you have bought into the Kiffin self promotion is laughable and downright naive. Just because he shouts how great he is doesn't mean it is the reality.

Nobody knew about Robert Neyland until Tennessee gave him a chance. There is no guarantee that Dooley will be successful, but being virtually unknown is not a barometer of future results.

Nobody knew about Lane Kiffin until Al Davis hired him.

I will not miss Monte's inability to defend the edges against the likes of Auburn, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech.

I will not miss the tireless breaking of NCAA rules and fear of severe sanctions.

I will not miss the continued embarrassment every time the fool opened his mouth.

I will not miss the USC photos in the VOLUN-FREKING-TEERS football facilities.

Perhaps you are the one making the ignorant comments?

What would be nice is to have a coach for more than one year. I like what I see so far - even though it will be hard, I cannot judge him this year for offense because of our pathetic recruiting of linemen and QB's over the past three years. But then that is partly why we have a new coach.
Sucking down moon pies and orange sodas for 3 mil a year
doesn't work very well.

See, that only works for awhile. Until NCAA starts cracking down on us, like they hopefully will on USC, and he screws us over.

They didn't hurt in the short run; but in the long run, they could have.

It was a combo of those two, and Reaves.

Secondary violations. Nothing major, and nothing would have come of it.

Ehh, that's college football coaches now-a-days.

He needed it to compete with the other egos in the conference.

When was this?

Dooley recruited better players, their games were closer, but they only won one more game at La Tech with Dooley then they did the 3 previous years 17-21 and 16-21.

I have nothing against Dooley and I hope he is successful, but his W/L record at La Tech was not that great IMO.

That's not the kind of football coach anyone who wanted the best for the University would want.

He should be worried about competing on the field, not the papers.

When he tried to turn us into "The USC of the east coast".

My logic may be cute, but it's better than the ignorance of the direction he was going.

The NCAA, for example. The only thing of any concern that happened under his direction was Hostessgate.

USC evidently wants him, and that's a much, much better university than Tennessee.

Half of BCS conference coaching now-a-days is to handle the media.

He never stepped on any existing traditions to start with.

Ok people the fact is Kiffin is gone and Dooley is here. Why are we even going thru the what ifs. For one I'm happy he is gone. Looking forward to seeing what Dooley will put together, and wish Kiffin the best at USC and hope we meet in a bowl game so we can kick is 3rd point of contact.

USC only wanted him after a plethora of no thank yous

This is just a personal preference of mine, but I like it the way it is. If we have nothing to talk about we stay quiet. Not saying I don't like media attention, just no unnecessary attention.

I would say trying to drastically change out culture is stomping on tradition.

Couple of things on Hostessgate. For one, it's not even clear as to whether Kiffin knew about it. Secondly, the NCAA hasn't even done anything yet about it, and it's been 5-6 months since it happened.

True, but they came to him. Not the other way around.

And you see where that's gotten us. Fan apathy is starting to set in, and Dooley hasn't even been the coach for 3 months.

Our culture sucked. We didn't win a damn thing for ten years, and Kiffin had to shake things up a little bit.
