Dooley just confirmed as new HC per the Sports Animal

Sure Dooley is not the bright star we had all hoped for. He is a diamond in the rough.

He has proved he can recruit in the SEC before. LSU 2001 - 2003.

Resources at Tennessee are far greater and better than that at LA Tech. I think with what he will have access to at UT could bring great things

First, he MIGHT be a diamond in the rough.

Second, Lance Thompson can also recruit. He was Saban's guy at LSU and Bama. Why not give it to him based on that logic?

Well, the guy is smart, that is a big plus. Saban thinks very highly of him... and I'm fairly sure that's not easy praise to obtain - so there's another big plus. Being recruiting coordinator at LSU during their first title run of the decade... another plus. He's got SEC ties... small plus. Finally, he was highly recommended by Muschamp... not sure that tells me much.

The La Tech record isn't overwhelming, but thats not the only consideration here.

Let's see what happens. His first job is salvage the recruiting class. Then, IMO, save the remaining coaching staff sans Reeves. Do those things, and suddenly this might not look so bad.

If Dooley is hired all we can do is hope he takes this program in the right direction. I surely don't want to have 7-8 win seasons but we'll see what happens.

Charles Barkley on Lane Kiffin: “He has to have pictures of someone having sex with a monkey. He’s had three really good jobs and did not deserve any of the three. He has to have pictures of someone having sex with a monkey, there's no doubt in my mind.”

I'm just wondering if the monkey in question has a high-ranking position in the Vols' athletic administration.

A 17-20 coach from a WAC school? Are you kidding?

One of two things is happening: (1) The Bruce Pearl hire was an incredibly lucky fluke hire and Hamilton is truly the least competent AD to ever hold such a position, or (2) UT Administration is simply giving up and relegating football to nothing more than an amusing Saturday afternoon diversion in the fall along with leaf collecting and attending craft fairs.

Say what you will about Saban ... But, go look at their trophy case.

Urban Meyer was the hottest HC in the country when FL handed him the reins.

Bobby Johnson was 60-36 coming out of Furman with a shiny new championship in his pocket and a steadily improving record.

I could go on, but what's the point?

Basically, all the schools in the SEC (East in particular) recognize who they're competing against on the the field and in the living rooms ... EXCEPT us. It's hard to be an alum and a fan for decades and watch this mess.

Some day ... when the cobwebs in the big structure by the river grow thick enough and when nationally-televised games are a distant memory, maybe someone will stop letting the monkeys run the zoo. Until then ...

Oh, and if I'm a 4-star or 5-star recruit? Let's see ... Urban, Nick or ... Mr. 17-20 from the WAC ... What to do? What to do?

7-8 win season ... See? That's what's great about sports ... dreams never die!!

IRVING, Texas -- The University of Georgia announced the hiring of Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach Todd Grantham as its defensive coordinator Friday.

Grantham spent the past two seasons as the Cowboys' defensive line coach, helping nose tackle Jay Ratliff earn two Pro Bowl invitations and one All-Pro selection.

Grantham, the Cleveland Browns' defensive coordinator the previous three seasons, contributed to a defense that allowed the fewest points in the NFC this season.

We can't even get somebody that good for HC!!!

You guys cracking on Dooley don't know what you're talking about:
1) legendary father in Vince Dooley; he knows the demands and sacrifices of making a championship team
2) under Saban at LSU, Dooley was an excellent recruiter; plus coaching under Saban, Dooley got some great experience under a championship coach
3) while Dooley's record at La Tech is a losing record, he's had no facilities, no recruiting potential; plus, Dooley took La Tech to a bowl game in 2008, the first since '01, and beat Northern Illinois
4) Dooley has NFL experience

Dooley's a good candidate; he's young, solid, energetic and has connections. Plus, the guy hasn't been fed the silver spoon; he's had to work in the gutter. Dooley's endorsed by Saban and Muschamp (the first pick). If Dooley gets it, give the guy a chance.

Tennessee has a great program with a rich history and tradition. Dooley may turn out to be the right guy. (At least you know he comes from a good family and is probably a man of character.) Football is cyclical, and Tennessee will be back on top again. This may be a setback, or it may be the absolute best thing. No one knows yet. Look at Chizik and Auburn. I'm an Alabama fan, and I for one don't think Tennessee is going down for the count.

If Hamilton went after Muschamp a list of other top coaches and they all turned him down, how is he giving up? The case rests that we gotta act fast. It is unrealistic to blame Hamilton for 1) Kiffin leaving, 2) No-one taking the job. He cant MAKE them leave. This has all been caused by the unforseen departure of Pete Carroll.

I now love Charles Barkley. That's one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

yeah, give Doobie a chance. It's not like the SEC is loaded with coaches and your bringing in the JV coach. Oh, wait.

Alabama Fan .. Wanna trade coaches?

In Hamilton's defense ... You have to recognize that he's looking at the big picture. I, for one, appreciate the fact that Hamilton's enabled all Vol fans - for years to come - to stop cluttering their New Year's Day or post-New Year's weeks with bowl or bowl party plans. Instead, we'll all be able to frolic ... Skip about with our friends and family as we'll all have much more precious free time to reflect on the finer things in life.

GO HAMILTON!!!!!!!! :good!:

(Read that last statement how you will.)

While it's true Hamilton didn't create this situation ... Oh wait ... He DID hire Lame and is now reaping the benefits of that hire!!

EVERYONE from the media to the fans to the players to the recruits understands that if TN is going to hire a HC - NOW - we're screwed. So, why not let Kippy keep the reins and work out of the limelight on a coaching hire that will make everyone go ... DAMN!

Will we lose recruits in the short-term? Yep! We are already. Will we lose 2011 all-star recruits? Yep! The same way we will with an unproven, losing WAC coach in charge.

BUT ... Could we make up for all that with a grand-slam hire (the way our dear crimson friends to the south did)? Yep!

This knee-jerk (accent on the jerk!) reaction to find a warm body before Sunday is a joke. As, it could be argued, is our illustrious AD!

I don't want to hear about this guy "being endorsed by Saban or Muschamp." Do you think they give a crap how things turn out at Tennnessee? Hell, Saban has to play us every year, why would he want a decent coach at Tennessee? It's as simple as putting in good word for a friend, hooking him up, nothing more.

Step back from the ledge.
