This. I mean if Dooley is the guy I will give him a shot and will be behind him because of how much i love the program. With that said however, if it is down to Dooley why not just give it to kippy. I haven't seen anything that shows that Dooley is more qualified for ut hc than kippy brown is.

This guy might be a great coach but he does not have a "big" enough name to walk into this situation and come out a winner. He is doomed from the start. All the recruits are leaving and nobody will accept the Tennesse program as a 2-3 year rebuilder. 1-2 seasons before he is gone.

If true, I'll back him 100% untill he proves he can't do the job. Hopefully he can and will be another Saban..

My gut tells me we are screwed, Fulmer left the program in shambles, slimeball bulldozed it to the ground all the while Hamilton set back and watched.

I can understand why we have had a hard time finding the home run coach, the program is about rock bottom, the pressure will be like an 800 lbs gorrila and the competion is the best in the country. This job could be a carreer killer for an up and comming coach, 3 or 4 years to rebuild and all the while the fans screaming for your head because you can't beat UF or Al.

YOu guys keep pointing out his record as a head coach, yet folks seem to brag on Cutcliffe's wins he's gotten at Duke.
Louisiana Tech is a tough place to win.

What do you know about college athletics???? Do you coach a college team??? I doubt it!

He is not a "splash" hire......but has a TON upside. He will not help this /next recruiting class...but I think he is one of the young coaches that has a bright future ahead of him. I will rally around him!

No, there shouldn't even be a wait and see approach with this hiring, Mike Hamilton should clean out his desk today and hit the road. It is absolutely unbelievable that we have fallen this far. Fare thee well football at Tennessee, it's been nice knowing you.

Not confirmed yet, ESPN just backtracked and said Sumlin is still in the hunt!! NO contract has been signed!!

Sure Dooley is not the bright star we had all hoped for. He is a diamond in the rough.

He has proved he can recruit in the SEC before. LSU 2001 - 2003.

Resources at Tennessee are far greater and better than that at LA Tech. I think with what he will have access to at UT could bring great things

A lot of Vol fans will disagree with this hire but I agree with many Vol fans that we need to get behind this coach and get on with the business of securing recruits and keep Vol football going forward. Lane Kiffin got this program jumpstarted in the right direction and I think Coach Dooly can keep it going. Evidently he is a fine young man, great recruiter and has NFL experience. Go Vols

If this is true, I honestly and sincerely never imagined that Tennessee football would fall this far. I thought the 5-7 days of Fulmer were the worst of it.

Kind of reminds me of Kiffin (I'd say more loyal, but maybe not if Georgia comes calling)...young guy who grew up around coaching, coached in the NFL (though not as head coach), been a recruiting coordinator at a major program...but it seems like some respectable posters have serious doubts about his coaching ability (I wouldn't know) and now we're getting Louisiana Tech assistants and probably moving Kippy away from the WRs? We could end up with worse coaching leading a much worse staff...
