Dooley is not the answer

Coaching! Some of you may be right, maybe he isn't the answer. When Bama hired Saban I said to everyone who cared to listen that they would start winning right then. They pretty much did. Just having Saban made their confidence go through the roof and that is a big part of it. They got swagger when they hired him. I really like Dooley and hope he turns in to great coach for us. But looking at facts in front of me and fact we didn't get that swagger or confidence when we hired him, I don't know if he will become that great coach for us. Keep recruiting and working DD, maybe it will turn around sooner than later.

I said when he was hired he'd be our Mike Shula. He's here another year or two regardless and he probably isn't the answer. To be fair to him. I'm not sure anyone that came after what went down over the last 3 years was going to do good things. Best thing he's done is stablize the program. We all realize now where the program is and none of us like it.

Patience little ones! Has everyone forgotten the state of Big Orange Country when Dooley was hired? Coming off bad season with Fulmer, the Kiffin experiment, no depth, short recruiting period for Dooley's first class, Kiffin experiment fallout, serious lack of experience for team. I love me some Tennesse football too, but I am realistic. We are not deep enough or experienced enough yet in critical areas, but it's coming. Dooley is having another good recruiting year, and rebuilding depth. If in a couple of years we aren't a lot better, maybe then, we revisit this. But really, do we want to loose the commits we already have and put the program back another 3-4 years, and hurt the stability of the program? The top recruits need to have some confidence the staff is gonna be there more than a couple of years at a time. Might as well drop down a division if we change coaches again cause we sure won't get the top recruits for sure. Instant gratification ain't gonna happen for this team because of everything that has happened over the last few years. Not trying to be critical of UT fans, but we were told it would take a few years to right the ship. If you can't give the man the time to get it done, maybe you are way too emotionally involved in Tennessee athletics.

Im still on the Dooley wagon but the wheels are falling off fast, we could of and should of won tonight.

Not a good comparison. Battle started with good players left over from Dickey, then went downhill from there. CDD has started with not so good players and kept status quo.

The OP is probably right, unfortunately. There is nobody on here that wants CDD to be more successful than me. I have talked with him, his wife and several of the assistant coaches; and like them as people. It is hard to accept that he may not get it done. But the definition of insanity comes into play here. Over and over again. It's not rocket science.

Selecting who plays, scheme, play calling, technique, communication and recruiting are all on the coaching staff.

The most exciting player on the field last night that made the best decisions was DY - and many of you on VN hated that they "wasted" a schollie on him. The best defenders were the two that many of you put down the most - Waggner and Austin Johnson. They are consistently the best on defense. Malik deserves praise as well.

Don't trash the OP for bringing the truth instead of Dool-aid.

Friends, Dooley is a Vol for life...just like you are. He's our guy and he is doing as well as can be expected, right now.

The football program is headed in the right direction. I didn't see any 'quit' on the field. These young players do not just lay down and take it, anymore. They fight for 60 minutes. That is the only "reasonable" measuring stick a fan can apply, when evaluating a coaching staff under the current conditions at UT.

This is a young team that still has to learn how to execute for 60 minutes...but they HAVE learned how to fight. This is the SEC, and SEC opponents will have their say during a ball game. This coaching staff has achieved the first couple steps on the road to competing for a championship and one of those early steps is...when a high calibre opponent does what high calibre opponents do (hit you in the mouth)...this Vols football team hits back.

They aren't always going to have enough "pop" to win the game when they counter punch...but at least they keep swinging. That's the best we can hope for, right now.

Get used to it, friends. (And some of you will obviously need a prescription for Prozaic, in the meantime.)

Nobody could win with a team this inexperienced.

He's pulling in good recruits, he got good talent last year.

We lost our star WR, our O line can't block.

I'd suggest finding another team

I don't mean this to sound mean spirited, but the real "truth" resides in this question.

Have any of you tried your hand at getting a collection of 17, 18 and 19 year olds to consistently do ANYTHING, in unison, in exactly the manner as you've taught them to do it, for 3 and a half hours?

If you have...and you think you can repeat the feat 13 times in a row...then maybe you should coach the Vols.

I saw a different team last night than you did. (Maybe I watched a different game) The one I saw looked like a deer in headlights kind of team. I saw little energy after the first third quarter TD. I knew right then the game was over. I saw that from the players reaction on the field of play.

yes i would champ. they are not improving. even a beaten up ohio st team showed improvement last night. we get beat is one thing, but a poorly coached team is something else.

I saw it completely differently. They had a bad snap that caused their first three & out of the game, right out of the locker room, followed by a short punt by redshirt freshman punter. Then, I saw a good team take advantage of a short field & get a lead.

Immediately after, a UT touchdown is wiped off the board upon a review..followed by a good opponent making two big plays.

Similar scenario to Oregon last year. (That game ended 48-13, remember?) Instead of of a 48-13 "lay down," this Vols team was trying an onside kick with over 2 minutes to go, after the back up quarterback completes two 4th conversions and pulled the Orange to within striking distance.

You may have quit on the team in the third quarter, but YOUR team was still swinging...throwing whatever they had at Georgia...fighting to pull it out at the end. They didn't have enough...and they made too many mistakes...but they didn't quit.

If these guys get blown out by LSU & Bama, it will be because of youthful mistakes and the sheer excellence of the opponent. But it won't be because they gave up the fight.

lol... Alright, dude. If enough of you start screaming for the coaches head (after a season + 5 games) the athletic department might just roll over and give you your 4th head coach in 5 seasons.

Start the movement...champ...but please...try to refrain from threatening to eat the coaches children. lol

I am awake, I see what is real. I see some bad calls that go our way and you have a different ballgame. The excitement gets going and the confidence. Those missed calls hurt our young team. I don't think anyone should get fired or that that was the only problem. Just a big momentum changer that hurt us. I think we had some bad play calling and coaching last nights, happens. Hope they light a fire and get some things fixed. Maybe even get a kicker that can kick it over the line of scrimmage. That been killing me for years.

i'm not mike tyson bro.lol. he is gonna get another year, i'm just saying when we finish 500 again next year he has to be let go. the coaching on both sides of the ball is terrible. if the kids don't get the concept well then it is on the coaching staff to simplify. dooley is not the answer, but hamilton has backed us into a corner with a below average coach that you really can't get rid of till his contract is up. I have no faith in the guy at all.

Then cheer for another team, that's all I can say. I'd really like to see you coach them then...actually I'd rather not
