Dooley in over his head? Cowherd thinks so (merged)

Exactly -- and those successful run plays were from running counter plays against the over-stacked defense to the opposite side of the field, where we managed more than 120 yards on about 6 run plays, yet we only run counters once every 5 or so run plays, despite the fact Oregon wouldn't adjust (because they couldn't due to inferior defensive athletes.)

It kills me (even under Clawson) that when we have sub-effective QB play, we never get more creative with our running game and hit them at different points of attack with that effective running game.

I wish we could have run the G-Gun 10 times against that team......

Yeah, that G-Gun, bad idea. Having a guy who doesn't know how to do a read option.......do a read option, is a bad idea. Gerald also never demonstrated the passing ability for the defense to respect him when he threw it.

Having an early morning hit of the crackpipe?

I noticed how you didn't tell me I was wrong.

Because I'm not. Gerald Jones couldn't hit the side of a barn when we called that play, and we never practiced the read play part of it enough for it to be really effective.

Common knowledge from Fall Camp. Wanted to run Wild Vol package a lot with G Jones. Effective and takes pressure of inexperienced QBs.

Video is probably on utsports although I'm not going to do the legwork. It's common knowledge.

Ahh, WildVol/cat isn't the G-Gun package, although it does take a lot of the concepts from the G-Gun. The G-Gun can only go two ways. Either Jones hands it off if the end he's reading stays at home, or he takes it himself if the d-end crashes down.

The Wildcat can go in a myriad of directions. Gerald can give it to whoever on the jet sweep. He can fake the give and run a counter. They can even throw the ball backwards to Simms, who can then throw it from a wide position. They can run a speed option or a power option.

There's a lot more to the Wildcat than there is the G-Gun.

whatever the semantics/nuances, i would have thought that the coaching staff would have prepared more players than jones to run it.

players do get injured from time to time.

Cowturd, only ESPN would have him on the air. Here the only time I have ESPN on it's, Friday night HS football.

The right thing for Dooley to do would have been to suspend every player who was there indefinitely until they got their heads together and came clean about who did what.

Keeping silent about a crime should be below the standard of behavior required for the privilege to represent UT.

dude, you are crazy

I was listing to The Herd on Friday, and they were running threw the games, when he came to the Tennessee game he said we had no chance and Dooley was a bad coach. He then went on to say we were going to fire him at the end of the year do you think there is truth to this?

Dooley should get at least 3 years. Fulmer and Kiffin left a bare cupboard.

kiffin really screwed us it is gonna be a rough couple of years but i think dooley can figure out the right formula to start winning again...once saban got the guys he needed at bama they started winning again...one great recruiting class that actually stays there can turn around a program

Dooley isn't the answer look at bama and Florida when they needed coaches what did they do they went out and got big name guys. We hired a guy with a losing career record, at the last minute granted if we would of had more time we would of got a better coach Dooley was a quick hire he is not the answer let another big name coach become interested in us and watch how quick hes gone

do you not remember kiffin???

was Meyer even close to the big name Saban was? He ended up a great choice but wasn't even close to the lock Saban was. Also remember USCjr has made 2 big name hires in the last decade. How'd that work out?
