Dooley hired OC at Mizzou

Missouri visits Tennessee in 2018. What will the reception be like?

Would be the only way Dooley and Butch are inside Neyland again....to be on the staff of an opposing team. They wouldn't be invited back for a friendly visit.

People on message boards generally aren't good at nuance. Everyone is either great at everything or terrible at everything.

Dooley was crap as a Head Coach, but it's not like he was bad at everything. I'd consider one of the best WR coaches in the country. And it's reasonable to believe that he might succeed as an OC. Certainly not automatic, but he understood offensive strategy and that was never his problem. His terrible recruiting, inability to motivate players, and overall poor program leadership skills were the issue.

Similar deal with Butch. Now everyone wants to believe he was bad at everything. He wasn't. He was a good recruiter. He was good at selling the program. I think Butch would do well as a Head Coach at an FCS program or another G5 type of program, but his weaknesses (particularly in regards to the strategy of the game) are really amplified at top-level P5 programs.

Even Saban has weaknesses. A lot of people think Saban is the "greatest X's and O's coach ever" but that's a big misnomer. Saban has been outcoached by Gus Malzahn and Dan Mullen numerous times, but Saban always has better talent. Saban's weaknesses in the X's and O's department were amplified in the NFL, but you don't see them as much in college, where his #1 recruiting classes and top-notch assistants hide his flaws.

But I do think there's a lot of truth to the idea that the most successful coaches understand their weaknesses and Saban understands his own well. Butch Jones, not so much. Derek Dooley, not so much.

:good!:

🤔
Fielded a helluva offense with Tyler Bray, Hunter, Patterson and those boys. No?

Fielded a good passing game. Running game was nonexistent so I wouldn't call it a helluva offense.

good for the Tigers.

I always liked Dooley.

You gotta admit that except for some terrible breaks he would have made it here--in spite of flaws that were magnified after he left.

His first year, he walked off the field a winner in both the LSU and North C game only to have to go back on the field and lose. Thats never happened to anybody!

Bash him if you feel good about it, but I personally wish him success and hope some day he beats Nickie's ass.

His success at Missouri will be good for the SEC and I'm cheering for him!

strong user name to crazy post ratio...

OC seems like a good spot for him. They will pass the ball alot based off what the strengths of their team are. When he was here that was the one thing I'd say our teams did well once we had a capable offensive line. That year with Matt Simms the first half of year was tough. Schedule was brutal, the OLine was inexperienced, and he held ball too long. Once Bray took over guns a blazing.

Dooley fielded a pretty good offense here. Also he will be holding a grudge against us, and may drag out his skidmarked orange pants for some voodoo ceremony. But, being Dooley, he will find a way to lose.

Mizzou game his last season was his Waterloo. Defeat out of the jaws of victory. Kneel with over a minute to go to settle for overtime. Accepting this job will be unintentional revenge. :)

I guess Barbara will have to go buy some black and gold so she can travel to Columbia to see precious!

A good friend who’s a VFL and loves the Cowboys swears the headset they give DD on game day isn’t live. It’s a prop.

So what will the response be when he hangs 50 on UT in Neyland next year and gets carried off the field by his players? Because we all know that would be the most UT thing ever.

DD would allow any team's run game to cut through a defense like hot **** through a tin horn man, we could not stop anybody.

But we did have a good offense. Just saying:whistling:

Quite the resume'...

Fired from Tennessee for being a Loser but left with may Millions of $$$$ because of a moron AD...

Hired by his good friend as the Dallass Cowgirls WR coach but Fired by Jerry Jones because the WR's and Dez Bryant got worse and worse under Dools lack of coaching ad leadership, LOL!

OK, who's his friend at the U of Misery that's dumb enough to hire him as their OC?

Never a QB coach = FAIL

Never a OC = FAIL.

At least they'll remember to water the bamboo, LMAO!

Welcome back to the SEC Drools.

VFL...GBO!!!

Are you 6 years old??? Dude, you need to evaluate your life a little...

The boy with the famous last name's tenure in Big D was much like the ones in Louisiana and at Tennessee, a total bust. As a receivers coach he managed to turn a talent like Dez Bryant into a non-entity. He ought to go back to practicing law. Coaching sure ain't his bag.

and why do that it if offense wasnt mizzu's problem?

I didn’t say he was going to over haul it but there will be some Pro style to the offense. Guarantee Drew Lock becomes a top 15 draft pick after next year. There’s a reason he was highly graded this year. Dooley isn’t changing the playbook but he will expand it.

It’s a good landing spot for him and he has a shot to rebuild himself. It’s just a shame that he won’t have the spotlight for press conferences.

Yeah. Dooley is the reason that Dez isn’t a top receiver. Oh wait Dez is still a top 5 receiver. Guess you’re gonna say Dooley wasn’t intrical in getting Cole Beasley and Terrence Williams to become vital playmakers for the Cowboys either?

You clearly don’t watch football.

You clearly don’t watch football or know anything besides what the headlines tell you. Quite a few Cowboy assistants turned down contract extensions last year. Dooley was one of them. So he wasn’t fired just like the other Cowboy assistants weren’t fired. They chose to not extend their contracts a year ago.

Why don’t you read more before posting.
