The players say he is. They know more than we do

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Dooley is the man Tennessee needed right now. Don't know how he will turn out as a gameday coach yet. That is still to be seen. In other words, Dooley may not turn out to be Mr Right, but he is definitely Mr Right Now. He has gained trust, re-instilled confidence on the team and throughout most of the fanbase. I do understand there are still a lot of skeptics. There always will be. I get it at this time though. What Dooley is doing for our image and for our players personal development is something this program has sorely needed since a few years before the Fulmer Cups' inception. The VFL program will become a huge benefit for us for many years down the road. IMO, with Dooleys' experience, upbringing around SEC coaching, fire, dedication, organization, commitment to excellence on and off the field coupled with his eye for talent(coaches and players), exceptional communication skills, salesmanship, and love of our traditions, he will also turn out to be Mr Right for the long term.
you must be joking. our team played with more true freshman than all but two teams in all of FBS. we have a ton of young tallent, including bray, hunter, rogers, neal, and players on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. to say that we 'still suck' is extremely short sided. i would be interested to hear what kind of questions you have going forward.

If Kiffin was still here, 7-6 and 6-7 would not have made many people happy. Just saying. Dooley is getting a pass for his first season.
He went 12-12 in conference play at Louisiana Tech.

I could care less if he went 0-24 at La Tech. He laid the building blocks this year for UT to get back on track. When we were 2-6 he kept this team together instead of letting them quit, which is much more than Fulmer was able to do the last few years. I remember after we lost to Clemson in the Chick Fil-LA bowl there were about 8 UT players riding the Marta back to their hotel intead of riding the team bus. One was Munoz and I asked him why they left and he said they just felt like it. That right there showed me Fulmer had lost control. At least for now Dooley has rallied the troops. I know he has made some mistakes but coaches coach they don't play, some of you people act like it's Dooley's fault when a kicker can't hit a simple PAT or a Punt returner can't catch a punt. We had one of the toughest schedules in the country and still went to a bowl. Hell with a few breaks we were less than 5 seconds from being 8-5.:loco: GBO
Eh, I don't really agree with that. This was going to be somewhat of a rough year regardless of the coach. UT did catch some breaks though with teams not performing well, which is what saved Dooley from a 4-8 or 5-7 season.
On a side note, I think Kiffin would've gone 8-5 with this team given how LSU, UNC, Ole Miss, and UK were playing when we lined up against them. Having said that, I think there are a number of coaches that could've pulled an 8-5 season out of this, so that's not necessarily a compliment to Kiffin.
There's a decent chance that Kiffin would have beaten Florida this year, and if he had, oh what could have been.
we are a young team and starting to do good things in tennessee honestly bray shouldve started since day one...simms wasnt worth anything only thing he had going for him is his lastname...my question is who gonna be our star def player...we had berry then reavis...so whos gonna step up

It took Tom Landry seven seasons to break .500.
Bill Belichick went 5-11 in his first season with the Pats.
Nick Saban went 7-6 in his first season with Alabama.
You can go on and on.
One season doesn't entirely indicate the coaching and team building abilities of a head-coach, positively or negatively.
We just couldn't "catch a punt".... really ? How many returns for TDs did we have ? How many kicks were missed, how many extra points, how much field position was gained/lost.... really ?
dooley was a head coach 3 years before he got to Tennessee, and didn't win then either
so if you count those 3 years 17-20
and this year 6-7
not real impressive
