Ill still never understand why there is *some* UT fans that want to fire Dooley. Dooley impressed me in his press conference when he was announced coach but it takes a lot more then words to prove your point. Dooley shows fire on the field. He shows passion. Fulmer didnt do that, at least not in the past 10+ years. Kicker misses a FG, Dooley goes buck crazy...Fulmer Claps his hands. Safety gets a big hit, Dooley is out by the numbers getting hype, Fulmer claps his hands. Dooley doesnt like the way a game ends, he's slinging headphones pissed off......Fulmer......Claps his hands (and then goes and eats Shoneys in Maryville). UT fans should feel very lucky to have a coach like Dooley. I would have swapped Randy Shannon with yall this year in a heart beat.
you must be joking. our team played with more true freshman than all but two teams in all of FBS. we have a ton of young tallent, including bray, hunter, rogers, neal, and players on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. to say that we 'still suck' is extremely short sided. i would be interested to hear what kind of questions you have going forward.
Because we are going to win games with vertical route jump balls to Hunter and Rogers. Raijon Neal may be a great one, but calling him to be a solid every down back at this point is dumbassery.
I'm going to drift back into the off topic boards and let you guys plan your Championship Parties now..
I understand our proud tradition, and everyone desiring for our program to be back on top, but ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I am by no means someone who sees the situation through rose (orange) colored glasses, but the job that Dooley did this year to unify, motivate, educate and instill maturity into these players was nothing short of remarkable. As a coach for 23 years, I am amazed that he took a fractured group of young men and created a team who exhibited the character of a champion. We all knew that this years team was young and inexperienced. Why on God's green earth do some of you self righteous fans think that for every negative outcome, it is your duty to point out every one of your perceived shortcomings in our beloved program. I am not naive enough to think that the masses will one day evolve into true fans who support their team regardless. However, I do expect that even those will little knowledge regarding this sport will understand that the achievements of this young team far exceeded their expectations for this year. How do you fix a program in ruins? The answer is, one area at a time. This coaching staff is very good. Let them do their job, and for crying out loud, Rome was not built in a day.

But we still suck. Dooley may well be on to things, I hope so, but we go into the offseason with many more questions than answers.

I am both a Vols fan and a Dooley fan. But realistically, coaching was only average for an SEC program. And recruiting, so far, is in the bottom third of the SEC. Should Dooley make some coaching changes to improve recruiting, or keep coaching static in order to keep the players from having to relearn with a new position coach? Personally, I would look for better recruiting coaches.
It took Tom Landry seven seasons to break .500.
Bill Belichick went 5-11 in his first season with the Pats.
Nick Saban went 7-6 in his first season with Alabama.
You can go on and on.
One season doesn't entirely indicate the coaching and team building abilities of a head-coach, positively or negatively.
dooley was a head coach 3 years before he got to Tennessee, and didn't win then either
so if you count those 3 years 17-20
and this year 6-7
not real impressive
