Dooley = Genuis?

Bottom line Kiffin took over a 5-7 team and turned it into a winner in year 1,

Dooley took a 7-6 team that won 4 SEC games the year before and turned it into a 2 year losing team that has won 4 SEC games in 2 plus years.

Well when you put it that way.. Golly gee you're right. Dooley must suck. I obviously don't need any context at all to make informed opinions.

Some of them are im sure but the whole team aint made up of JUCOS. I dont know the exact roster and numbers but still our coach put together the base for that team and it was taken over by 1 of his assistants if I'm not mistaken and continued his base philosophy and adding his own spin to it. I don't know for sure like i said but still the man needs time were about there... THIS IS TENNESSEE not some lil D2 school with no competition...

So if Dooley were 5-0 right now, would Kiffin and Fulmer deserve the credit?

I thought a lot of the players on La Tech are JC players that the current coach recruited. I coud be wrong.

9 of the 22 starters on offense/defense at LaTech are players Dooley signed while he was there. Most feel he does alright when it comes to recruiting. The fact he can not coach the players once he gets them is the problem.

All he is saying is that Dooley did a ton of good La. Tech. He left the program in a much better state than where it was when he arrived.

Could it be argued that Fulmer left us better off? Probably, because he left us with a NC. But in reality we were on a clear decline.

Kiffin is seriously not even worth discussing. He might has well never been here. Whatever good he did while he was in Knoxville went right out the door the day he left. He has just prolonged our eventual rise to relevance an extra year.

Are you really convinced that we have made no progress? Do you think we are going backwards?

Dooley was replace at La Tech by Sonny Dykes who had been the OC at Arizona under Mike Stoops. Prior to that he was the Texas Tech OC under Mike Leach. His OC at La Tech is Tony Franklin who has been OC at 4 different universities and runs a his unique form of the spread offense. I am not sure Dooley has any sort of system, He has never been an OC or DC.

Is this a troll topic? It's too hard to tell. It's too legitimately put together to be a troll, yet too utterly ridiculous to serious.

You honestly think that if Dooley was fired today that he would get another HC job at any school like TX,LSU,Ohio St , big name schools ?

Schools like that don't tend to hire anyone who has just been fired no matter who it is.

Was the program alot better off? Maybe it is the new coach there who has done the "good". Dykes is 18-12 and won coach of the year in the WAC last year. If you look at it LaTech was 16-20 the 3 years prior to Dooley getting there. Dooley was 17-20 the 3 years he was there. Maybe you can see something I am missing. Maybe Dooley led the bake sale fund raiser or maybe he sold more tubs of popcorn door to door while he was at tech. When it comes to what took place on the field, it looks very much the same to me. Dykes appears to be a good football coach.

How kind of you to tell me what someone else meant to say. Please continue to share your wisdom with the uninformed masses. Now, please let him answer my question.

The ONLY progress I think we have made is adding to the roster. The team still plays like it is lost alot of the time. This is a VERY poorly coached team. The fact Dooley was talking 3 years ago about issues in the line/run game and it took all this time to have any sort of a threat running the ball is a joke. You know a coach is in serious trouble when he knows what is wrong, but he just can't fix it. Do I think we could win 5-8 games every year with Dooley? Yes I do. Is that worth keeping the man? Hell NO!

Great post OP.

If we do end up with a record worse than 8-4 and Dooley is retained, I hope there is a change at OC, stability be damned.

I just don't agree that we are a poorly coached team. I think we are a sensitive team that tends to get their head down when things go wrong. Most of the players have had their heart broken over and over again, just like we have. But they didn't do it last week. That's encouraging if nothing else.

I'm not trying to say that I know Dooley will win 13 games a year. I don't know. I don't even know if he can beat Miss. State this week. All I really know for sure is that it feels too early to tell for me. Too much has gone wrong for him. I think he's a brilliant guy that has a ton of potential. I don't think there is any coach sitting around waiting to take this job that is going to drastically change everything for the better and vault us to championships. I just don't. I think it would be super risky to make a coaching change this quick.

Do I think Dooley has weaknesses? Yes. Every coach does. That's why you have assistant coaches. This staff hasn't been together long. I just want to see how good they can be together.

Here is the way I see it. Is it worth 4-6 million dollars to roll the dice on Dooley? I don't think it is. If he had shown he could win, he would have something to say time will heal things. All we are doing now is investing in hope. He's never been a winner, it's a bad investment.

This country seem to be 50/ 50 on every issue, take your pick! :loco:   :dunno::sad:

Right now it's an extra 5 mil investment to tell coach Dooley to walk. Thats before we throw atleast that much, a year, at one of those "big names" some of you want.
