Dooley = Genuis?

Paraphrase for all you non-readers: Dooley's got this...eventually. He is a man of character who is building a powerhouse.
Is this an April Fool's joke...in October? :loco:

The man hasn't even won a single SEC game of consequence. This sounds like all the sheep who were praising Sunseri in the Spring and Summer...saying he was a "Bada$$." Well...they are partly correct. He is bad (as in NOT good), and his D is looking like a$$.

C'mon guys everyone must blindly believe Derek Dooley is our football savior because real fans believe their coach is the best in the country. His past failures mean nothing because of the mess he inherited and was brave enough to take a substantial pay raise at no risk to him. /sarcasm

And it will all pay off soon when Big 10 and Pac 12 schools start paying us to come play at their stadium to fill out their ooc powderpuff schedule.

Very valid comment and CAN NOT be discounted.

Doley has done an average job of recruiting in the SEC at best, but he has done a well below average job of coaching/motivating the team.

That is a combination that leads to 1-9 in his last 10 SEC games and an overall record of 14-16

I think he has recruited really well. If it weren't for a few knuckleheads that couldn't keep their act together like Da'rick, Bourque and Cam Clear, we would have more weapons than we would know what to do with on offense.

I see what you're saying in a lot of ways, but it's not like Dooley has caught a lot of breaks, or any for that matter. Whatever you are talking about in recruiting just isn't true. He has filled needs every year, despite rumors swirling about how terrible of a coach he is. We already have a seriously talented offense full of future pro's 2.5 years after starting from almost scratch. If we get this defense going we are going to be good. Like really good. I think we're a lot closer than many people think. I hope so anyways.

I agree Dooley has a detailed long term plan. Hammy said so when he was hired. I think he's been spot on in recruiting needs and building the team. He needs to speed up the culture though. The team CANNOT quit in close games and Dooley keep his job.

I think 7-5 or better gets him another year.

It can't be that obvious if basically half the fan base disagrees.

I just looked at the poll that is running on this board that asks : Dooley, Saban, Carroll, Gruden, or Meyer

----------------------------------
Which would you rather coach your team?

Dooley got 21 % of the votes. How does that equate to half the fan base?

+1

I almost added that to my above post as well. I decided not to as I give the man credit for standing in as coach and adding some decent talent to the roster. The time for a stand in coach is over. We did not get sanctions, the roster is better, and it is time to make winning a priority again. A new HC can take that step.

How do you know this? What if said coach comes in and goes 6-6 his first 2 years, we fire him to? And the next coach? Just who are these "new HC" you speak of?

Why don't you and 'boro vol get a room! Good grief!

You're basing your assumption that ALL Volunteer Fans live on this board.

Dont114=Clueless

The half ignoring Dooley's record at Tennessee and La. Tech and thinking he is going to magically become a winning head coach in the toughest conference in the land.

Pretty simple past results predict future performance.

Ya sabans 5 years of suck at michigan st predicted his success didnt it?

Winning coaches get that title by doing 1 thing. Winning. Losing coaches get that title by doing exactly what Dooley has been doing his whole career as a HC, losing. If we hired a new coach and he went 6-6 and 6-6 in his 1st 2 years, it would be an improvement over Dooley as we would be going to back to back bowl games. As sad as that is, Dooley could not even do that. There are ALOT of football coaches out there who have won more than they have lost. They have proven they can evaluate players and compete for 4 qtrs everytime out. ALOT of these coaches do not make 3.5-4 million dollars a year. Money talks and coaches would listen if UT was serious about winning.

No thanks....I snore.

BTW....Dooley was never qualified to be the head coach here. His previous record proves that.

I have complete faith in CDD!!! Look at the program he left to come here.. They are now in the top 25 with a 5-0 record and thats with th eplayers he recruited there before he come here. He is just about to break through with a roster full of his players that are bying into his philosiphies and playing very well. They are making adjustments and getting better wheteher people want to admit it or not. I cant wait for Dooley to prove all the negavols wrong!!! Then they need not jump on the bandwagon then... True fans are there through the good and especially the BAD!!! GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!

I thought a lot of the players on La Tech are JC players that the current coach recruited. I coud be wrong.

Some of them are im sure but the whole team aint made up of JUCOS. I dont know the exact roster and numbers but still our coach put together the base for that team and it was taken over by 1 of his assistants if I'm not mistaken and continued his base philosophy and adding his own spin to it. I don't know for sure like i said but still the man needs time were about there... THIS IS TENNESSEE not some lil D2 school with no competition...

Did you know that Derek Dooley led Louisiana Tech to their first bowl victory since 1977?

You can look at a page full of numbers with no context all you want, but they don't always mean what you think they do.

Bottom line Kiffin took over a 5-7 team and turned it into a winner in year 1,

Dooley took a 7-6 team that won 4 SEC games the year before and turned it into a 2 year losing team that has won 4 SEC games in 2 plus years.

Number of losing seasons Saban had at Michigan State??

Zero.

1995 Michigan State 6–5–1
1996 Michigan State 6–6
1997 Michigan State 7–5
1998 Michigan State 6–6

So four years of going .500 is ok.. as long as we dont get that one loss in a bowl game that makes it a losing season?

Ill go let dooley know he only needs to go 6-6 to make the negavols happy

lets just forget the fact that our schedule is in the least 3 times more difficult then MichSt in any year you wish to look at.

well yeah that's true as long as you ignore everything and simply look at a W-L record

So basically over 1/5 of our fan base would rather have Derek Dooley, who hasn't won squat, over 4 other coaches who all have either a national championship or a Super Bowl victory on their resume?

Thanks. That's a neat perspective and seems to say a lot of good things about our coach.
