Dooley finally paid off

Good to see Dooley at Dallas. Giants beat them twice and last week held Dez to one catch of which he fumbled late in the game to seal Dallas's defeat.

Some things never change.

Buyout should only be in effect if we basically fire a coach because we found someone we like better, not fired because they suck out loud. Win 8 or 9+ games, nobody goes to jail, no sanctions and we fire you? Ok you get a buyout. Drive our program in the freaking ground and we can your sorry Dooley ass? No buyout for you. The people who negotiate contracts for UT are idiots.

That's how it works everywhere.

The stupid thing was letting Dooley have control of the program.

"If a school fires a coach without cause, it must pay any buyout negotiated in the initial contract."

How is "you're failing to do your job as a head coach" not "cause"?

Has a winning record and 2-3 bowl wins (pending MCB outcome), so I bet it doesn't match the legal definition of "failure" even if that was in the contract. Failing message board expectations? Get LWS or DeerPark on that one. :)

Tennessee makes final buyout payment to Derek Dooley

That helps get a bit of the bad taste of the Vandy loss out of my mouth.

And for all the "fahr Butch" crowd, yeah let's do that now. What perfect timing to start another round of payouts. :eek:lol:

Thank goodness only a small minority wants him gone now.

There is also a "fire Butch" crowd. 8-4 and Music City Bowl is completely unacceptable. The cost of winning is high.

Dang it, each time I log in and read this op title, I keep reading WAY TOO MUCH into this title -- Dooley finally paid off -- nope, it's not happening the way I'm reading it.

Even tho the buck stops a Butch, there are still important factors that he can't control. He can have tremendous input and impact to how things go, but still so many non-controllable factors that impact the outcome of the game.

The worst quote of the year was when Shoop said he was hired to beat Florida( I hope he knows he was hired to beat them every year and not just 2016). I would put this year's Florida win against about any regular season win, I was at the Miracle and the 5OT win vs bama, but to just beat Florida obviously is not enough. Florida is a stepping stone for what we all want and that's a NC.

So a coach can do his job and still not win every game. We have been conditioned that it's an embarrassment to lose to Vandy, I'm glad we feel that way and to think Neyland was hired to beat Vandy.

We need to hire a Co-OC and tell him his job is to beat bama.

Go Vols!

Beat Nebraska!

I bet Nick Saban doesn't believe there are so many factors out of his control.

If Dooley had lost to USC and Vandy the way CBJ did they'd fired him on the spot. Wait...

I wish people would stfu about Nick Saban. is he the coach at Tennessee....no. Stop comparing Butch to Saban. Let him lead us! Damn!

That's the spirit. Don't get me wrong it does get a bit tiresome, but it's natural to compare what I've got to what others have. Saban is a great coach, and he makes for an easy comparison.

As for Butch I would like for him to go on a Summit type run.

Go Vols!

Beat Nebraska!

I read it less as a comparison to Saban and more as an illustration that many of the excuses made for Butch are crutch arguments. Poster likes Butch, he loses, poster makes something up about how losing that game is the nature of the business.

When it's pointed out that it's not the nature of the business at several other places, the response is often that we're beneath all those other places. South Carolina is 4-0 against Vandy during Butch's tenure even with all that "lack of control," but don't let that stop you

You can make those same statements about ANY OTHER COACH in the SEC other than Saban. Butch actually compares well to Freeze, Sumlin, Mullane, Miles/Orgeron, Smart, and even McIllwain.

They all only suck when compared to Saban.

And what does Saban have? Top recruiting classes every dam year.

Even average coaches could win an NC with that talent.

Butch couldn't win the East, at South Carolina, or at Vanderbilt with the most talented Tennessee team in years. Doubt he could win a national title with the Patriots.

Uh, yes it is.

"They're doing the best we've seen, and some poker guy cheated, so therefore they're cheating" is not math. It's baseless assumption, no matter how much you invoke statistics to try to defend it.

Saban is the only one that makes 14-18 in the SEC look bad?
