Dooley doubles number of camp attendees...

I never said I didn't know about him. You don't read very well do you? I said most people. You might want to slow down and read the post before picking a fight. Anyone can act like you do when they're behind a monitor and don't have to worry about the outcome. I knew who he was. I just didn't think much of him. Would you like me to make all my words 3 letters long so you can understand me better???

Well, after reading your drivel on here for weeks, I lumped you into the "lacking knowledge" group. Btw, you knowing about Kiffin actually hurts your argument. I'll let you figure it out.

Umm, he coached two Heisman winners in Leinart and Bush. He was in charge of one of the most prolific offenses in the history of the game. He was the youngest coach to ever be hired in the NFL.

He was co-OC with Sarkisian and neither name was that that well-known. Most SEC fans don't follow the names of two-year coordinators at programs outside their conference. He was the youngest NFL coach, but he was also hired by Al Davis and with the Raiders, neither of which is something many SEC fans follow with much regularity.

Oh, please do. I could ony pray to have your high IQ and all knowing power. Let me bow down to you and throw gifts at your feet so you can bless my fields and crops OH Wise ONE.

Give me a break. You either need to finally lose your virginity and get out of your mom's basement or your just some middle life dork, staring at the inside of his cube all day, and can't wait to act like he's actually somebody when he gets on this board. What a loser.

This post is very true.

This board now runs off track in every thread
and ends up stuck in the same rut. All threads devolve into debates about DD sucking, Fulmer sucking, or Kiffin sucking or some odd combination of the three. The sites great but I feel like I'm living in the movie ground hog day on here. Cue hat ranting, Eric brokering peace accords, sab slamming weak arguments and the occassional Troll drivel and you have the daily fix. Freak must laugh every night as he signs off. He's the leader of an insane asylum for vol nuts.

Awesome.

Pretty certain that Kiffin was the OC by himself in 2005 and 2006. Sark took over in 2007 and 2008 after Kiffin left for the Raiders, and he was USC's QB coach in 2005 and 2006.

I don't hate Dooley, but there is a very clear difference between being a head coach in the NFL and a head coach in the WAC.

I support Dooley and hope he can win, but I was much more excited when we landed Kiffin.

Your not supposed to mention any excitement over the previous staff. Its as if it never was.

To be fair, those USC teams were far from "some other team". They were the darlings of the time, at that time. Fight fair.

Sark was the assistant head coach in 2005 & 2006, the "passing game coordinator," the QB coach, and co-OC. He and Kiffin would recommend calls & PC would sign off or not. Sark turned down the Raiders job before Davis took it, just as he turned down the SC job last year before Kiffin took it.

I'm pretty sure that Kiffin was never the offensive coordinator by himself there. He was either co-coordinator with Chow or Sark. I'm not sure if Chow was still there in '05 and '06.

I have never heard anything about him being a co-OC.

"Kiffin spent 6 seasons (2001-2006) as an assistant at USC under Pete Carroll. He was the tight ends coach in 2001, then handled the wide receivers the next 5 years. He added the duty of passing game coordinator in 2004, then was promoted to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 2005 and 2006."

"Sarkisian spent 2007 and 2008 as the Trojans' assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. He had also previously served as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach (2005-06), quarterbacks coach (2002-03) and as an offensive assistant (2001) at USC, for a total of seven seasons there. During his seven seasons as a member of the Trojans' staff, the team has posted a combined 74-15 record. As offensive coordinator, his record was 22-3."

That's from each one's respective site.

See above.

Chow was gone after the 2004 season btw.

Because co-offensive coordinator just doesn't have that ring to it.

Even before Kiffin's hiring here, I had only heard that he was co-offensive coordinator.

That doesn't make any sense. If Sarkisian was a co-OC, then his record would reflect that on his site. It doesn't.

utgibbs, you've gone too far in the other direction. DD is doing some good things. I like that recruit response seems to be more positive than I and many others might have thought.

But there's simply nothing to base the idea that DD is an upgrade over CLK on. CLK didn't prove much at UT but CDD has proven even less to date.

If we look back around the 3rd week of January 2011 and have more reason to feel optimistic as we did this past January then we can compare.

In previous posts I've said it's a hard call to make since Dooley hasn't coached a game. However, it won't take much to better 7 - 6. In addition, I think Dooley has already done more with less. Dooley starts his tenure in a far worse position than Kiffin did, and he's already done things I think are more impressive than Kiffin ever did.

Our 7 - 6 season could be summarized as follows: we lost two games more than we should have. This season the equivalent record would be 4 - 8. Anything better would be a clear upgrade on Kiffin.

Edit: Now that I've read the end of the thread, basically VegasVol and I are reading from the same sheet (again). Obviously, we have to repeat the obvious in order for clear thinking to predominate.

I can't say that I was. Most of the comments I got were.... Who is this kiffin guy? and Why kiffin?
then.... oh yea......... he has a Daddy... Why didn't we get......?
I googled him like I figure most of the rest of you did.
Remember that if you went to Wikipedia at a certain time we found out that Gruden had been hired to replace Fulmer..............
No I wasn't excited when we "landed" kiffin.

I wasn't excited, but I sure supported him and made excuses for him............. not just initially, but everytime he had a "slip up".

Great point, and one I haven't focused near enough attention upon.

Evidently, hiring Lane Kiffin required "The Monte Clause" - we hired a head coach in order to bring his father to the staff.

And we fired the guy who had us in the SECCG every three years for this.

UN-BE-LIE-VA-BLE.

And yes, we could translate his 7 - 6 record as losing two more games than he should have. With some colossal slip ups and embarassments. The Bama game was the last straw from me, when the football gods smiled so sweetly on the Vols, and he was "scared of the refs....." And then the way that comment was defended on this board.

UN-BE-LIE-VA-BLE.

7-6, losses to every top-20 opponent, recruiting scandals reported in national publications, and a piss-on-u departure sure validated your good instincts, didn't they?

I would add: lost two games he shouldn't have. Was "scared of the refs" and didn't know his kicker was hurt when the football gods smiled on us against Alabama.

To put in perspective: if Dooley were to lose two more games than he should this year (given the state Kiffin left the program) his record would be 4 - 8.

Any better and Dooley is a clear upgrade.

So, we were supposed to randomly go 9-3 last year on the basically the same schedule we had when we went 5-7 the year before, but then drop back down to 6 wins this year. Yeah, no bias in that at all...

And on a side note, why would our team get so much worse? Could it be because Fulmer didn't fill any holes for like three years?

If your idea of a "great point" is saying that no one knew about Lane Kiffin coming from the NFL, and then saying that that's NOT true about Derek Dooley coming from Louisiana Tech, you're further past hopeless than I thought...
