I just read this. And I must have been a sleep when this happened, but how in the hell did Fooley get an extension???

"When Dooley's contract was extended after his first season at UT, the buyout calendar was also extended. Under his original contract, the buyout would have dropped to $4 million next year. In the amended contract, the $5 million buyout remains in place through Feb. 15, 2014."

Two reasons:
1) Mike Hamilton was the AD that hired him

2) Mike Hamilton was still...the AD, when he got the extension. He liked to give HC's extensions just before they get the boot.

This ^makes NO sense what so ever.

Contracts aren't worth the paper they are drawn up on IF the wins aren't there to keep all parties concerned happy. And in this case, if the UT brass isn't happy, than the buyout discussions will take place and POOF, contract gone. Dooley's contract will evaporate soon, but not soon enough for this lifetime loyal Vol Fan.

If we're sitting on a pile of cash then it's not a problem, but obviously TN is not sitting on a pile of cash any more! Right now Jimmy Haslam is my favorite person in the world, I hope he comes through for us!

Well now, how can this BE? I read on this message board today that Gruden has been hired to be the next coach in waiting & it's a done deal & you can book it & take it to the bank stuff. So which is it? What's going on here?

MH gave CPF multiple contract extensions he should not have been given too, DD getting the same should not surprise anyone.

Why do you even care?

Why wouldn't he?

Most people want a new coach and with all the money Mike Hamilton has tied up, it makes it harder to afford a competent coach. I guess you actually think Dooley is doing a good job.

Charlie Coiner fired for not handling the sideline duties properly. Gruden hired as the Special Teams coach. Gruden hits the road recruiting when the calendar allows. Dooley fired in March and Gruden promoted. The million dollars saved is handed over to Gruden for biding his time. Creative enough storytelling for you?
