But where the city shines in the most unlikely of places. The number of homicides solved are high.

“Last years solve rate was since I’ve been in homicide was the highest we've had it was 94%,” said Miller.

In 2008 168 homicides.
146 solved.

So Memphis has stupid murderers. I guess that makes me feel better. Or not.

To me what sets Memphis apart is how few safe areas there are in Memphis. Every large city has parts that are unsafe and full of crime, shootings, etc. What makes Memphis extra special is that these are not balanced by the nice parts of town.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most people working in Memphis commute from outside the city.

I wouldn't even stay at a hotel in that town. (Follow the link for details). :snoring:

ehh, I've lived here for 15 years and the city has improved drastically over that time. There was a time when Beale Street was rough - now it's as safe as any other bar area of a big city.

The truth is that most crime in Memphis is contained in defined areas. There are very few "random acts of violence".

And the number of excellent areas far outnumber the unsafe areas.

Truth is...I really don't care about Memphis. As long as the good recruits head east to Knoxville and not over the bridge to MS.

GO VOLS!! :loco:

'Cept for Graceland....

The whole place misewell be in Arkansas....:eek:lol:

*hit home too much?
:lolabove:

Graceland is in the middle of the hood.

I walked from Beale St. up Main St. to the Marriott at I-40 at 2 am once, other than the bums sleeping in the park and on benches I felt pretty safe. But then again I had spent the whole night drinking.

I think its funny how places like knoxville are considered backwards and racist when a place like memphis probably leads the nation in racial tension.

I will be attending the University of Memphis next year and for those that don't know it is the safest college campus in the state of Tennessee that has more that 500 students enrolled. So yes parts of Memphis are bad but the campus and certain areas aren't.

Dont be a punk and start liking memphis basketball.

Vollygirl, I agree that CDD is a stand up guy and will be a great coach for us, but that quote was all just good coach-speak. I mean, we couldn't exactly expect him to call the fanbase a bunch of losers or anything. :)

We went to Memphis a few weeks ago, walked around on Front Street late at night, walked around the riverfront area after dark, took the trolleys on Main Street, walked around downtown, went to Graceland, and drove all over the place and never saw the first hint of any unsafeness. A guy did warn us from going in the Graceland area after dark, but that's about it.

I feel better knowing that, at least statistically, if i'm murdered in Memphis, they'll catch the perp.........

Hope so.

But it's kind of like your mom telling you how good looking you are. May be true, but what do you expect her to say?

No biggie. We can use any reason to be excited about the program these days. :hi:

I just meant the fan turn out was as good as he said it was. And that comment came from the MCB website. So it doesn't hurt my feelings a bit that they included it, when UNC returned 4,000 of their 10,000 ticket allotment. :) Makes me happy.
