Dooley is a clear upgrade over the last coach. I've been saying it for awhile, and he hasn't disappointed. He's been quietly making the Vols better and better (not so quietly now!), and he's done more with less in Knoxville since arriving. Kiffin had SO much more to work with and SO much less to deal with.

We could have General Neyland, Nick Saban, and Vince Lombardi as our Big Three on the sidelines this year, and we might still be 2 - 6. We've got to support Dooley all the way; we can't let another mass myopia cloud his early tenure.

"[UT fans] are like a sack of potatoes. You shake 'em up and pull one out of the bag. Some are different shape from the others; some are rounder; some have more eyes. Put 'em in the oven and bake 'em and they all taste about the same...."

Reporter: "Are you saying they all love the Vols?"

"I don't know how I could have said it any clearer....."

From the class and respect for the university standpoints, I could not agree more. From a coaching perspective, we will soon see, but I expect this staff will be solid.

I'm sorry. The reason he's better is... a snappy comment to a reporter?

I mean, let's at least try to make sense. He hasn't coached a game yet. He hasn't had a chance to prove whether or not he's an upgrade or a downgrade.

He's a better fit...no question about that. A clear upgrade? I love how we can make that assumption already...

uh, coach...

Don't you mean a sack of SWEET POTATOES? You know, the ORANGE ones that are just WONDERFUL with brown sugar and a little butter...

I don't have a clue if the guy can win us championships, but I do feel very confident that the team will improve under his leadership. I would also go out on a limb to say that we won't be getting into NCAA sanctions for his recruiting tactics. With Kiffin, it was just a matter of time (as we are seeing now with the LOI). So, in that regard it is a clear upgrade.

He hasn't coached a game yet. I'm glad Kiffin is gone, and so far I support Dooley, but I don't understand why everyone is making judgment calls on a coach who hasn't coached a game yet.

The reality is we have way less talent this year than last. Not to mention CDD will not be fired no matter what his record is. If the fans revolt and start yelling at Hamilton to fire him all it will do is hurt recruiting and give ESPN another negative story. This will not be the year to judge CDD's coaching. This is the year to watch UT football and know better things are to come. If CDD has the same record as Kiffin we are in much better hands with this coaching staff in more ways than one. Kiffin may have been a great recruiter but the way CDD is filling our needs in the trenches I feel like 2012 recruiting class will be phenomenal. Keep your heads high through the low times vol fans. Times will get better and I for one think they already are.

I believe the key word utgibbs used was "upgrade"... And I have to agree...Noone is annointing him as the best coach in UT history...IMO he will ultimately become one of the best we've had at UT if The Big Orange Nation has patience enough to let him implement his plan but compared to Kitten?...Oh yeah, he is DEFINITELY an upgrade...Quick question slightly off topic...Who leaves the University of Soo Classless first, Haden or Kitten??..

Certainly his demeanor with the press is a clear upgrade.

I feel he has already done more with less than Kiffin and his staff. The way he improved K's recruiting class, the way he has composed himself, the way he filled needs in the offseason, etc.

I know it's difficult when he hasn't coached a game yet, but we can't let this season define his tenure as fans.

And finally, for this team, 5 - 7 (one win left on the field) would be an improvement over the 9 win team, CLK took to 7 wins. Anything above that is TCB.

He did not improve the class at all. We added Da'Rick Rogers and lost a ton of other good players that would have helped us a lot more. Plus, Kiffin also closed out a last minute recruiting class by adding several highly touted players. That's at most a push.

Demeanor with the press? That's a coaching attribute? I actually liked Kiffin's attitude, as well as Dooley's. They both treat(ed) the Knoxville press with the minimal respect they deserve.

Great post. I've got to say, after the whirlwind of saving (and improving) the recruiting class, momentum was slow with CDD. But things have just kept rolling, picking up speed; it just seemed when Dooley stepped out at SEC Media Day, we had real momentum again. I'm getting really excited. If we beat Oregon - look out!

Losing Chaz Green, JC Copeland, Brandon Willis, Kenbrell Thompkins, Markeith Ambles, Ahmad Dixon, and several others didn't really improve things. Dooley did a good job given the terrible time table he got, but he didn't improve things at all.

I'm not sure where you got "UT fans" out of that comment. If you actually heard that interview, he was talking 100% about the d tackles when referring to the "sack of potatoes," not the fans.

Careful, high doses of reality are extremely toxic to gibbs.

Did they sign LoI with the Vols?

I must have missed that.

Dooley improved the class. He's continued to improve the team with the work in the offseason as well.

Great. Then, you can quit whining about Tajh Boyd. Evidently, he had no intention of going to UT. He never signed an LOI.

My only beef about Tajh is the GoF trying to downgrade him at Clemson in order to promote their foolish Fulmer fruminations.
