Dooley Calls Out Oku

If he'll stick it up there and go....amen. We haven't had a return threat in forever. Can't remember anyone truly threatening since guys like Gault and Morgan.

I remember Terry Fair taking some back, but I could be way off and be thinking of someone entirely different.

Asked David Oku about Dooley saying he'd shown "nothing" as a kick returner. He said he agreed and appreciated Dooley's honesty.

Oku: "You always know exactly what Coach Dooley thinks of you. I respect that."

I feel like if Justin Hunter wasn't our number one wide receiver right now because of all the injuries I would be fine if he would return some KO's or punts. But Oku does have that big play in him at anytime but right now it just seems like he doesn't want to run hard or make the right cuts, he just wants to run straight.

That's good that Oku is handling that like a man. Maybe he will put forth more effort and change what he's doing wrong.

We need kick returners that are more explosive and evasive. I am not sure if we have any. Would like to see Hunter or Rogers get a chance, but normally you don't see guys that tall as returners.

We need to recruit guys similar to Florida just to return kicks and punts.5ft.8 or 5ft.9 speed burners with a low center of gravity.Built like Barry Sanders and runs with authority.Guy's that can turn on the after burners and blow your doors off.Go Vols!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to recruit those kind when your depth chart is lacking as it as of now. This would be a perfect reason to get that young kid but it's hard to take cause you got too many other needs.

The last person I remember us having that was really scarry and consistent was Nilo Silvan. Lamarcus Coker was a threat, but he lasted a year. we have been awful back there for years. Oku doesn't seem like much of a threat back there.

I'm not sure that calling out players every week is optimal, but it seems to be a developing habit following each loss.

Seems like the coach should provide a layer of protection for these kids from the savages among us who are ruthless in our criticism.

We have definitely been lacking in the return unit for awhile, especially when a number of upper-echelon teams have a real threat back there. When you combine that with our kicking woes of late, it really kills us in the field position game.

We never win that part of the game.

yeah i guess thats my hold up with it. As a coach, i find myself challenging my guys, but thats in our practice setting and not in the local rag or school paper. I guess thats the lawyer in CDD

I think you're doing it the right way, coach. :hi:

Players respect that. You don't need to communicate to them through the media.

OKU is a good tailback but no way is he quick enough or shifty enough for a kick returner. Surely there is some body else..

leonard scott had one good return against Georgia, and Peerless had one against Bama - not much other than that ever happened.

This. I sometimes have to check to see if Oku is running in sand. Compared to Demos on Saturday... way too slow.
