Dooley And Staff Doin Work.!!

That's great until Wilcox leaves, and we have no LBs.

It's also a good way to have the worst run defense in the SEC. Alabama would lick their chops at the sight of a base 4-2-5 from UT.

So if Orta plays at corner, do Randolph and Martin stay at safety? Their size might suggest otherwise.

Dontavis Sapp would fit Dooley's mold for safeties, but is Wilcox's ideal size for that position the same as Dooley's?

I'd think Meline would also fit Dooley's mold with another offseason in the weight room.

I saw something somewhere on this board that had Sapp list as a LB next year on the depth chart

Jeez you are predictable. I knew as soon as I saw a pro Dooley thread title I'd find your diarrhrea stench in here.

I think it's overreacting to assume more db in the class means we are going to a 5 man backfield. Some will naturally add weight & turn into athletic lb. Al Wilson come to mind? Last year no one wanted us to take another rb because we were "loaded" at that position. Just relax and take it in.

I agree. Just because we're taking alot of DB's doesn't mean we're switching up our defense. Maybe it just means that we lack depth there, want more competition in practice, and maybe our coaches saw what Julio Jones, AJ Green and Alshon Jeffery did to us this year. Add to that the fact that Art Evans is probably gone and, while I'm almost positive Janzen will be back next year, you just never know with him.

We probably won't go to a base 4-2-5 front but we will see it. We'll be very multiple. It was shown throughout the season how multiple Wilcox is and that was with what he had to work with. Imagine how multiple we'll be with the personel we're bringing in this class. We probably won't be a 4-2-5 base but we'll see it a lot same with the 4-3 and the 3-3-5. Very very multiple, flexible, and creative.

And maybe also that they, the coaches, have higher confidence in what they have in the LBs right now than in the secondary. So they feel the need to get better DBs.

dooley has stated that he wants to get bigger at the corner and safety positions...6' corners instead of 5'8" corners and big safties 210-215 range

I think this is why he backed off the Washington kid from Jackson. He's an incredible athlete, just small....but Saban loves him...said he has great hips to play corner....After Dooley came to town Washington never heard from us again....that's the only explanation I have..too small for what Dooley wants.....He's a great kid from a great family....

Wow 7 dbs in this class if we get Moore

If we get the safeties the staff wants and they turn out to be as good as expected, don't be shocked if JJ is moved to corner. He has the ability to be a shut down corner and is undersized at safety in regards to what DD wants at that position.

JJ will also only be with us for one more year.

They need this kid - he is interchangeable to both CB and Safety and will beef up to play against more physical WR's - which are now plentiful in the SEC. I am on the side of those that think there will be multiple schemes used over the coming years. You need versatile players to do that.

Fulmer made a living at times converting Safeties to LB's (Al Wilson and Kevin Burnett are two that come to mind). Maybe CDD thinks recruiting hybrid safety/lb's is a good way to build depth in both areas.
