Smith also didn't help himself with his former Vols' bosses as he left his press conference and went to see Dooley as the two had a brief, albeit testy and unfriendly, exchange inside the Neyland-Thompson Center.

I know DD makes the big bucks but he sacked up and fired one of his best friends for the betterment of the program.I like him more and more everyday:salute:

Hope their friendship wasn't ruined in the process. We've all heard warnings about letting friends and family being employees at your business. When the dynamic of the relationship changes, being the superior at work and an equal outside of work is often a difficult task.

That's not how you work like heck! You're supposed to keep your friends around whether they can coach or not.

The argument was about how Smith was pissed off Dooley didn't stick up for him and allow CCS to keep his job. He was especially pissed that he felt "run-out" by Wilcox and Thompson, so he voiced his opinion on that as well. Dooley and Smith are long time friends, it won't have any effect on their long term relationship, the guy's just pissed he was forced out of where he wanted to be and a school he cares alot about. Fell bad for him, but as earlier mentioned you gotta give it to Dooley for havin the stones to fire a longtime friend for the betterment of the team.

I just hope DD thanked Smith for carrying the staff this year and bagging all the recruits, and of course being a VFL

I don't think Smith and Dooley were/are as good of friends as some people believe.

Again I say, Chuck Smith is the guy whose firing/resignation so many people on the forum whined about?! His true egotistical, stubborn, selfish character has truly come to light. Good move CDD.

And he did it to not only someone who was a "friend", but also supposedly a "VFL" and as homesweet pointed out above, a fan favorite on this board, at least until he had his press conference. There are points in a persons life as we all know that make huge differences in how people view them and how everything turns out afterwards. With CCS unfortunately it was that 30 minutes beside the Neyland statue that may forever overshadow the great things he had accomplished at the University of Tennessee. We can only hope he calms down, reflects on the situation, and truly goes back to being a true VFL. CDD has once again proven the betterment of the program is first and foremost in his mind.

Just because you are a VFL doesn't mean you can work within the system that CDD has set up. And also VFL's can be a**holes.

I don't think smith turned in his expense report for the merch he bought at the bookstore when he shafted all the employees. That's probably all this was about right, right? Anyone? Bueller?

The only thing that could have made CCS look worse would have been to bring Benedict Gerald Jones to the press conference.

haha. Did you notice that some of the coaches Smith thanked had openings and didn't hire Smith? Auburn had opening for D line coach, guess Trooper doesnt have as much pull as CSS thinks. Not saying asst coaches can hire others, but just odd how all those coaches ssem to think CSS is so valuable but none will hire him. Schools would make room for CSS if he was as big as he thinks he is.
