Dooley and Dez Bryant

Dooley was thrown into the SEC before he was ready and he could never keep a staff together to have offensive and defensive schemes work.

Did it occur to you if he had been less arrogant, a few less assistant coaches might have not moved on?

Am I the only one who enjoys the trials and tribulations of the Dallas Cowboys, mainly because of the former Vol coaches that work there and the less than honorable way they left? Of course , Jerry Jones irritates me with his bombast and chest pounding, but listening to Dooley wrangle with Dez Bryant on NFL Sounds of the Game is more fun than eating when one is hungry. If ever, two people deserved each other, well, that's DEZ and DIZ. I know, I should let this go and move on- I am trying to. The way the Detroit/Dallas game ended and the fallout from the sideline comedy is good stuff.

Dooley caused his own problems. If you run a business and piss everyone off around you then everyone begins to go against you. TN high school coaches even pushed players to other programs out of state just so we couldn't have them. Dooley got a job as a head coach because of his last name. He was supposed to be right the opposite of Kiffin, and he was supposed to be disciplined and a great game manager. Every where Dooley has been they always get better once he leaves. LA Tech did and now we are better. That has to tell you something about his coaching and his ability to get players to go all out. I've never talked to one person who has meet Dooley that didn't say he's an arrogant POS. I know some big donors at UT and all of them hated Dooley, and I'm not bluffing on this. You take it for what you want, but ppl outside VolNation did not respect UT because of Dooley and the big time donors knew it. Dooley will in my eyes go down as the worst UT hire in the history of UT football. He's a joke simple as that.

And a few on vn knew he was terrible when he lost to the Kent team but so many refuse to believe could be that bad.. sometimes people sux due to themselves n dools was one of them. :peace2:

U r spot on!!!!

He may be arrogant, but he is far from being the only arrogant college football coach. Saban has been at Alabama since the 2007 season. He has had 19 different assistants. He has 2 who have been with him since 2007. He has had 11 assistants either be promoted, let go, or just leave. When Saban was hired at LSU, he was coaching at Mich St. He sent a plane to East Lansing to pick up his assistants to bring them with him to LSU. Not one of the 9 boarded the plane. That was before he was famous, and before he had won a Natl Championship. Now people work for him to pad their resume, be a part of a winning program, and maybe learn something, not to be his pal.

He had the audacity to threaten to take away blocks of student tickets from some fraternities because they were leaving night games early when Alabama was up by 40 points. Imagine having to sit through a blowout of Georgia State , instead of going to a frat party. You leave, you don't get the privilege of watching him again. How arrogant is he? That's okay. He wins. You can be a prick as long as you win.

Johnny Majors had major staff turnover several times, which caused the inconsistency in winning from one season to another. Johnny was not well liked by staff and Athletic Dept people. That was okay. He was a Vol, and he won. That ended when another capable ex-Vol , Phil Fulmer was ready and waiting in the wings. Saban's act won't wear well if he stops winning.

Is Dooley arrogant? Saban? Muschamp? Spurrier? James Franklin? Urban Meyer? Lane Kiffin? Yea, and they all are tolerated when they win, and all are terminated when they lose. Coaching at a high level requires a streak of ruthlessness. It ain't a popularity contest.

Dooley was an average coach with good intentions. He tried to change the atmosphere in Knoxville but his plan backfired. I always pulled for him and I hope he learns from it and grows from it.

His chances of turning the team was lost with the lack of control from many "me" players. That is what he walked into and failed. He deserved his buyout IMO.

Fans and reporters jumped on him early and I think it eventually caused him to give up mentally. He's human. I gave up on my company a few times and was just going through the motions. A lot of pressure dealing with delays, angery customers, putting your heart into it and not having enough to pay the bills. I can only imagine what his pressure was like. Walk a mile in his shoes.

I think if he had it to do over again he would have chosen a different route. Starting with Bray.

good post - I cannot agree he deserved $5 mil for < 3 yrs...legally yes it was in his contract, but not based on his performance as head football coach.

He got himself a good contract - like a winning lotto ticket.

I'm confident that Dooley never truly embraced the fact that Tennessee is a VERY special place.

I'd say he is a below average coach and lacks the key personality traits to be a successful head coach, leader and motivator.

some have called him a blue blood...sounds about right from stories I've heard/read

To be honest, seeing what Butch and the new staff have done in 10 months makes me question Dooley's entire tenure.

anyway enough Dooley already

:horse:

Future is bright :shades:

haha i'm probably about to get ripped for saying this but i've never hated dooley either. I thought he did a lot of great things and built a pretty good team. I think we were headed in the right direction he just made a terrible hire with sunseri
