Dontavius Blair Puzzler

For some reason I seem to remember reading somewhere that one reason the staff may be keeping Blair around is to protect the team APR. Can Larry or GFW confirm or deny this? TIA.

I said that in response to someone several days ago but was joking without an emoticon.

There is no reason right now to jettison him. Roster is under 85 limit. No one to give the scholarship to. They have always loved his physical attributes. He just can't perform. If something happened he started, they would sure play him.

IF he doesn't start helping I could see him leaving after season and then they would gain another spot for 2016 class.

But I don't see anything happening before then.. just no reason to do so.

Don't like recruiting rankings, eh? How about offers to play at big time programs?...

"Blair, who is originally from Anniston, Ala., held offers from Auburn, Georgia, USC, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida State and many others."

I said in a earlier post our coaches evaluations were wrong.I should have also added that the recruiting services got it wrong as well.Still sucks that he's a bust.

He is apparently a bust based on being benched last season (reportedly for not being in condition) and practice reports after what...a week?

In time he may "get it" and work his way into the two deep. I've seen it happen with "busts" before.

Just saying...games matter way more than practice. They may put him in and he turns out to be a whole other player.

Heck, from what I have heard THAT is what happened with Dobbs last season. :hi:

Wasn't he one of the players involved in the hostessgate? I did see him at the end of the bowl game hugging on Butch.

No. However, he was from a South Carolina high school like the two involved in hostessgate. And it was the same year[/QUOTE]

Brandon Willis and Corey Miller. Unbelievably Willis is still in college and will play for UNLV this season. Willis committed to Tennessee then signed with UNC then left there for UCLA then back to UNC then back to UCLA and now to UNLV. He has earned his degree though.

Did not know that. Wow!

Not saying it was his fault but Coleman Thomas was indeed our weakest link last year at tackle. Ever seen real quicksand? Never seen slower foot work.

He was no weaker than the Tackle playing opposite of him, and they said yesterday on the radio that he was the favorite to win the RT job this year coming out of camp. So lets hope that he is not as bad as you think he is.

In your opinion, is he:

Soft
Not smart
Or over-thinking everything

following 5 star players that could not develop and play at this level, at all.

Daniel Brooks
Chris Donald
Brian Darden
OJ Owens
Kenny O'Neal
Albert Toeaina
Walter Fisher

there are others, these off the top of my head

it happens. Some kids even though highly rated and recruited by everyone just cannot get it at this level. Several of these struggled at lower levels even.

Wow, Brian Darden....haven't heard that guy's name in a while

don't think it is soft or over thinking.. although could be the second I guess

he has not mastered just reacting at snap whatever it is that is slowing him down. Has to hesitate. that could be not able to grasp assignments or thinking too intensely about what he is supposed to do, just not heard anyone say what they feel is the specific reason.

It is certainly not physical or demeanor. He has won too many one on one matches since being here for it to be either of those IMO

Don't be shocked if Blair steps up enough to be a serviceable backup and Hall takes a RS.

oh I would not be shocked. Not spoken to anyone close that has seen that as being possible but I know in the summer they would have liked to redshirt as many OL as possible. If DB could serve that role then be chance to redshirt Hall.

Gilliam when healthy was light years better then Thomas last year. Not Blaming Thomas he was a true Freshman playing out of position just like this year if he plays RT. He simply doesn't have the footwork to play tackle in this league.
