Never hireyour best friend especially if his name is literally Friend. Never works out.I don’t think they should be best buddies, but I think if I was selecting a new coach, I wold vent all coaches who were leaders in their position expertise. If he was the right choice and did well, I think we would likely become good friend#.
Dont you think that the head coach of any team would want his offense and defense coordinator's to be someone he knew and could be comfortable with?
This just proves how badly our last 4 coaches have preformed and how far we have fallen. I blame this on the Administration from the presidents through the AD.s. Hopefully, we now have a chain of command which can correct the mistakes which have been made during the last 15-20 year#. I think we are on the fight track, but we have to realize how far we have fallen and how far we We have To go. It Will not happen over night and will be expensive. SEC contract money will allow this to happen.I still believe that AD Danny White and HCJH are both still stunned at how many coaches are telling them NO THANKS especially wen tey seem to have te go ahead to be offering really good $$$ to their coaching prospects.
I'm still stunned that AD Danny White had the approval to offer $8 Million per year for a 5 year contract and coaches were saying NO THANKS to a $40 Million contract.
That, more than anything, tells me how far down we've fallen as a potential coaching destination.
That's really sad even though I totally understand that not knowing how badly the useless NCAA is going to hammer us is a really big deal to HC prospects.
I also heard that the UT Admin was willing to add into the contract a clause that said the HC contract could be extended to add more years based on how hard the NCAA hit us and they STILL turned us down.
I know it's going to be a long, tough climb back up the mountain but now it also seems that the mountain is much steeper than I figured.
I have to wonder is AD White and HCJH are wishing now that they hadn't jumped into this raging dumpster fire.
Time will tell but I still feel pretty good about our new AD and HC.

Coaches just don’t want the UT job. We just tarred and feathered our own HC to avoid paying his contract. Ruined his college coaching prospects. If I’m a talented coach, I’m staying the hell away from Knoxville.
I have found that most, maybe not all, professionals working on this level rarely think like that. It’s what sets them apart from others. I doubt they’ve had those thoughts because most of the executive types ID the problems then set a solution in place and begin to work toward the states goal. We think these guys hear the “noise” around them. Most do not. So hopefully they are to professional to let their minds wonder in that territory.I have to wonder is AD White and HCJH are wishing now that they hadn't jumped into this raging dumpster fire.
Auto correct keeps changing vett to vent when used in a sentence. However, I suspect you knew the message which was being sent. If not sorry for the mistake.

Thank you. Going to be difficult and we need to hope Heupel is better than anyone we’ve had previously. We’ve also kind of salted the earth with recruiting in a few places as well with some of the things that have happened.trusting Tennessee's administration is a bigger issue than the NCAA problems for coaches coming to Tennessee...
Since Joe Johnson retired in 2000 and Doug Dickey in 2003, the trajectory for the program has been down. Constant change at the President position, the Chancellor position, the Athletic Director position and coaching positions has been major parts of losing trust in the administration. Blame has to also be placed at the feet of the BOT and boosters who are influential in those positions that have been constantly changing.
Add to that the constant bungling of the coaching hiring and coaching firings and coaches want no part of it. Most coaches make really good money. Why go from 4 million a year in Ames Iowa to 8 million a year in Knoxville? When the risk is failure? Money doesn't matter if you're a millionaire. Wait on something you feel will get you success quicker, like Napier is doing.
How Fulmer was fired was a bad look for the collage coaching world. How Kiffin was hired (locked in before CPF was fired) was a bad look. Then interviews were held with other coaches and UT knew Kiffin was the coach. That got out and after Kiffin left, many of those same coaches were called again and told the AD to kiss their ass.
That started the constant turn downs from even discussing open positions at Tennessee. Many have said no to having a conversation. Still happens. Its why we ended up with Dooley, Jones, Pruitt and now Heupel. Its why Heupel is having a hard time getting a DC.
BTW, firing the coaches for cause doesn't help with hiring football coaches either when you have the above history.. Coaches know they have to get into the gray of the rule book to be successful. If there is a chance that they can be fired for cause for being gray, why take the chance.
This history is much more of an issue for hiring football coaches to Tennessee than the coming NCAA stuff. NCAA stuff is short term. The above has been going on for the long term. PERHAPS, the current administration can turn that around but it is going to take some time, several years..
