I have never started a thread before in 8 months of being a member of VolNation, but I feel pretty strongly about this subject, and want to voice my opinion.

As everyone knows, we have already been given our death-wish for September 19th, 2009 when we travel to The Swamp to take on the defending National Champion Florida Gators. The talk on every media outlet that speaks about UT football, is how angry Florida is, how their feelings have been hurt, and how they will stop nothing short of a NCAA record victory when they play us in September. Their bulletin boards are full of quotes, and their weightroom is decked out with motivational material showing our "disrespect" for them.

But VolNation, we are the ones who have been, and continue to be disrespected. We are the ones who have had our asses kicked, and teeth beat in. We are the ones who have slipped from glory. We have been the whipping boy for too long, and enough is enough! It's time we stand up, as players/coaches/administration/fans/and Tennessee Volunteers, and keep this new found swagger that this staff has put in place.

Mark Twain once said, "All you need is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure."

Our new staff is instilling a confidence that we need to adopt as well. Don't assume we are going to lose in the Swamp, or say a 7 win season will be a success. We should step on the field thinking, no, knowing that we have a shot in any game we play. Don't back down with your friends who are Florida, Georgia, Bama, LSU, etc fans. It's time to rise back to the top, and it starts with all of us. We are Tennessee Volunteers, and that is something to cherish, no matter how significant or insignificant that role is in the grand scheme of things.

I don't know about the rest of you all, but "I'm really looking forward to singing Rocky Top all night long after we beat Florida next year, it will be a blast!!!!!!"

Reality is much more comforting to me than fantasy. I'm sorry, but high expectations when you have the kind of team we do will only lead to disappointment. This is a 7 win team and Florida is not one of those wins.

I will be hoping for something special to happen, however, I will not be betting any money on our guys.

I'll be at least a little happy if our team plays Florida as if they believe they can win. I think that would be a pretty drastic departure from the last couple of years.

Friends who are Al, Ga, and UF fans......hahaha. I may like some of them, but they will never truly be my friends.

All I know is that nothing that happens this fall will be more disappointing than what I saw versus UCLA last year.

If we were still out on the field we'd be expected to play knowing we'd win even if the Steelers were on the other side of the field. Watching from the stands or on television gives a different perspective.

We are TENNESSEE. We are the toughest, meanest SOBs on this ball called earth. We have been beat down before. We have beat them all with GRIT Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida,etc....
Kick the football off and start mutilating some candy arses boys.
GO BIG ORANGE:rock:

423, it seems as if Florida has already won because the people on this thread have declared it so. The truth is, however, that those men in orange are going to be playing with 11 people at a time, and they'll be allowed/required to have football pads on, and all of their players are major D1 players, just like Florida. We should fully expect to compete and play well enough to win, regardless of how "outmatched" we are.

I'm with you, what the hell it's the off season. until recently I always believed we would win every game. The UCLA game last year was really the one that broke my optimism. But, new staff, new team, renewed optimism. We are Tennessee. Go Big Orange!

Typically we've been capable of winning every game. This year, we just don't stack up. We may surprise a team like UGA or Alabama, but 7 wins is what I'm sticking with.

We can beat Florida. I remember in 2001 everyone and I mean everyone thought we were going to lose that game. Turned out to be one of the best games I had ever seen in mylife. I hope they all say we are gong to lose to Florida. Great, the more disrespect the better.

Except that that team was rated #4 in the nation.

I think we get nine with the schedule. Auburn, USCe, UCLA, Georgia, and Ole Miss are the swing games. I think we win 3 of these plus the 5 gimmes(Vandy, UK, WKU, OU, Tiger High) and we pull off the Bama upset. Like I said it's the off season, optimism runs high. After I see Crompton throw a pass, our O-line block, and our LB's tackle, I might change my mind quickly.

Wow. I think your expectations are way too high.
