All the barbs coming Barry's way the last couple of days have hurt him so much that he's gone out and hit two home runs, collected another hit, and driven in six runs.

He'll probably have to take a week off after that performance.
Am I the only one who can see Barry hitting 756, rounding the bases, continuing right on through the dugout, out the clubhouse door, and calling it a career?

I've thought about that, but my thought was he'd at least limp around for the rest of this season and then retire.

Actually, if I had my way, Barry would hit 756, round the bases, stop on top of home plate, remove a picture of Bitter Hank from his pocket, then rip it up a la Sinead O'Connor with the picture of the Pope on SNL. That would be awesome.

i can see that.

i can also see him getting the record in a Giants uniform at home, then getting shipped off the AL.

It will be interesting to see how different things are in eight years when Rodriguez is about to pass Bonds.

well, for one, Barry has already said he'll be there.

I mean the whole chase -- Rodriguez is not exactly a universally liked player right now, so it will be interesting to see if he suddenly becomes a hero when he ticks over 700. Will Bonds still be so disliked then that everyone starts rooting for Rodriguez to break his record? Or will most fans treat Rodriguez then like they are Bonds now?
